Edgar Poe – "The Moral Anarchist"
poems, fiction, creativity, mysticism, detectives, army, horror, humor, depression
Poe is one of the most mystical writers of the XIX century.
His strange and unreal stories should repel anyone who is just starting to read his books.
However, everything is quite the opposite – The Software attracts and lures with its gloomy vision of the world.
But where in the life of this writer appeared a fantastic genre, closely intertwined with notes of modernity...

1.
Childhood
Many of us are used to the fact that famous people spent their childhood in not the best conditions.
Edgar Poe is rather an exception to the "rules".
From a very young age, the future writer felt like a prince.
His adoptive parents never spared funds for his upbringing (his real mother and father died when Edgar was about three years old).
Education has become a great contribution to the boy's future.
At the age of six, he was sent to an expensive boarding school in England, and 5 years later he entered college in the United States.
From his earliest years, he was attracted to literature, languages and history.
But, despite this, mathematical sciences were also subject to him.
Nevertheless, for the young man, the fairy tale did not last long.
At the age of 16, he had a big quarrel with his father, who was already extremely dissatisfied with the "foster child".
The reason for leaving the house was Edgar's protracted card games.
The father completely refused to pay his son's debts.
In turn, Poe considered them not just monetary debts, but "debts of honor".
And the only way out that he saw was to leave his father's house.
Having lost a roof over his head, the young man decided to take a steep step – he entered the army as a soldier under a false name.
Having achieved the rank of sergeant major in a year, he could not stand it and turned to his father for help.
The latter, having thrown some of the money, also took care of Edgar's release.
Almost immediately after the "liberation", Poe found himself in poetry.
It was published in newspapers and printed in a book, but without success.
He was able to return to poetry only a year later, since by his father's decision he was admitted to the military academy.
Of course, the army is not what Edgar has been striving for all his life.
That's why he got expelled from the academy, further severing relations with his father.
After that, Edgar had the most difficult period of his life.
For two years, almost nothing was known about him.
He got drunk, reached extreme poverty, at the age of 27 he married a 13 year old girl.
And still he did not give up – the young poet worked a lot on his work.
His works did not go unnoticed – he won two prizes at the competition for the best short stories and poems.
The hundred dollars received arrived just in time, because Edgar was actually starving.
It would seem that everything should get better.
However, after the death of the mother, the young wife also dies.
She had tuberculosis.
Once again, a black streak comes in the writer's life – a disastrous life has resumed.
The current circumstances finally sent him on the path of alcoholism.
Increasingly, Edgar was visited by crazy hallucinations, which became the reason for the birth of his famous mystical stories.
3. A lifetime of work
Of course, literature was the meaning of Poe's life.
His works were sometimes filled with black cruel humor, then, on the contrary , they were created for the sake of sincere laughter of the reader.
Nevertheless, the writer is more often ranked among the founders of such genres as horror and detective stories.
It was Poe, being a rare eccentric and madman, who had an indisputable deduction.
He introduced in his stories a popular chain to this day, of the form: crime investigation - exposure.
His works have the most unexpected endings.
So it's better for fans of all the most unpredictable things to start with the work of Edgar Poe.
As for horror, Po is far from the ancestor.
But even this did not prevent him from becoming famous as one of the most mystical writers of several centuries.
In almost every work there are ghosts, gloomy castles, immured people and other things that are not particularly pleasant for the ordinary reader.
It would seem that all the stories are made up and there is nothing to be afraid of.
However, Edgar Poe presented his stories to readers with the frightening authenticity of all events.
And willy nilly you will begin to believe in the madness of what is happening.
4. Interesting facts
Every year, on the poet's birthday, a secret admirer visits his grave;
The name of Edgar Poe (as well as the names of his stories) was mentioned by many singers in their compositions.
For example, Green Day, The Beatles, Iron Maiden, Mylene Farmer and others;
In the animated series "The Simpsons", the main character Lisa reads the poem "The Raven"by Edgar Poe;
The film "The Raven" copies many scenes from the work of the same name by Edgar Poe;
Japanese writer Edogawa Rampo specially came up with a consonant pseudonym with the name Edgar Poe, since he was a fan of him from the earliest years;
The stories of Edgar Poe laid the basis for the plot of many computer games.
5. Circumstances of death
Unfortunately, nothing is known about the real cause of the great writer's death.
In a delirious state, he was discovered by an ordinary passerby.
According to him, Poe urgently needed help, as his appearance left much to be desired.
Many people are still interested in the question of why the writer brought himself to poverty and hunger.
Most likely, the reason for this is the death of his wife and alcohol.
There are a lot of versions about the cause of death.
Starting with common diseases at that time (syphilis and cholera), and ending with alcohol poisoning.
Also, some sources say that along with the remains of the writer, his wife and mother in law were reburied.
And many are sure that it is not his body that rests in the grave of the writer at all.
However, we can only guess at the actual facts that happened to Edgar Poe in reality and after his death.

It's no secret that he was an alcoholic, but at the same time he wrote stories very well.
My favorite story is The Murder in the Rue Morgue, I think this is his best work.
If I'm not mistaken, a film was made based on it.
I think that he died, like most alcoholics from the "green snake".

Now it is clear why Po has such a craving for such gloomy images.
They say that in a state of intoxication, talented people practically do not create anything, but there are a lot of works created with a hangover in world culture. ))

Yes, the more mysterious a person is, the more speculation there is.
Even death causes so much talk.
But it seems to me that the cause of Poe's death was definitely not cholera and syphilis.
Even at that time, doctors could diagnose these diseases without difficulty.
And I read somewhere that Poe died of a brain tumor.
I think that this is most true, because this disease has a very big impact on the character of the patient, his actions.
And that's where the writer's hallucinations came from.

I was interested in the story of a fan who goes to the grave.
Here, for example, they went to Yesenin to shoot, to Sonka the Golden Pen to ask for good luck in thieves ' affairs...
And this mysterious admirer of what goes there?

To be honest, I think that everything is banal - alcohol.
And all the hoaxes are generated by the writer's peculiar fame - well, they donot believe that everything with his death can be clear!

Dostoevsky was also a gambler who considered gambling a duty of honor.
So what?
He wrote "Crime and Punishment".
There is an analogy in the movement towards the dark, and the terrible.

I read Edgar Poe avidly in my youth, but I became addicted because of the school curriculum - in the eighth grade, after school reading was a mandatory study of the work "The Golden Beetle".
I'll add a little to the article - a thirteen year old girl, his wife, this is his cousin Virginia.

I respect the masters of the short story, and especially Edgar Poe.
It seems to me that if the circumstances of his life were not so tragic, then such poignant masterpieces would not have been born.

After Poe's death, mysterious events related to the writer's personality did not stop.
Since January 19, 1949, on the writer's Birthday, on a strange man appeared at his grave for many decades, left red roses and a bottle of cognac.

After all, talented people are never ordinary people, they each have their own "cockroaches", and Edgar Poe is no exception.
