Rule 8 of the Rules of the Game of Football defines the procedure for starting the game and resuming it after goals are scored, the completion of each of the halves of the main and extra time, or after the game is stopped for reasons not provided for by the Rules.

3 Disputed ball 3.1 Procedure 3.2 Replay
Prerequisites[edit / edit wiki text]
Before the start of the match and before the start of the first half of the extra time of the match (if it is assigned to determine the winner of the match or a series of matches), a draw is made (for example, a coin toss).
The team that wins the draw gets the right to choose which goal it will attack in the first half of the main or extra time of the match.
The opposing team gets the right to perform the initial kick in the first half.
The team that wins the draw performs the initial kick in the second half, in which the teams change goals.
Initial strike[edit / edit wiki text]
The initial hit is being executed:
at the beginning of any half of the main or additional (if any) time of the match; after a goal is scored — by the team in whose goal it was scored.
Procedure[edit / edit wiki text]
The players of both teams are located in their own half of the field, while the players of the non striking team are outside the central circle, at a distance of at least 9.15 meters from the ball until it is put into play.
The ball lies motionless in the center of the field.
At the signal of the referee, the player strikes the ball, directing it in any direction, and the game begins.
At the same time, the player who made the kick does not have the right to touch the ball again until another player touches the ball.
A goal scored directly from the initial kick is counted.
Violations and punishments[edit / edit wiki text]
If the player who made the initial kick touches the ball again before any other player touches it (the ball), then the game stops and the opposing team is given the right to make a free kick from the place where the player touched the ball for the second time.
In case of all other violations of the execution procedure, the initial strike is performed again.
Disputed ball[edit / edit wiki text]
A "disputed ball" is a method of resuming the game after it has been stopped for reasons not directly provided for by the Rules of the game (a ball that burst during the game, a fan who ran onto the field, etc.), resembling a hockey throw in.
Procedure[edit / edit wiki text]
The referee throws the ball in the place where it was at the time of stopping the game (except in cases when the game is stopped within the goal square — in this case, the throw is made at the nearest point on the goal square line parallel to the goal line); the game is resumed at the moment when the ball touches the ground.
The draw must be repeated if any of the players touches the ball before it touches the ground, or if the ball, having entered the game, leaves the field without touching any of the players.
