The rules of the game of football (English: Laws of the Game; literally: "rules of the game") are the regulations that determine the order of the game of football, according to which competitions are held.
The first football match played under these rules was held by members of the University of Cambridge in 1848 at Parkers Peace, Cambridge.
On October 26, 1863, the Football Association officially approved these rules.
The modern version of the rules was developed by the International Council of Football Associations and published by the International Football Federation.
The rules of the game of football regulate such issues as the number of players, the duration of the match, the size of the field, the requirements for a football ball, the types of violations of the rules and others.

History[edit / edit wiki text]
The rules were first introduced on December 7, 1863 by the Football Association of England.
The rules were based on the provisions of the game invented at the University of Cambridge.
Currently, the rules are set by the International Council of Football Associations, in which representatives of the English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish football associations have one vote, and FIFA has 4 votes.
These rules were basically adopted in 1970, in 1992, due to an excessively non spectacular game at the 1990 World Cup, a ban was imposed on playing with the goalkeeper's hands after a pass by a player of his team, since then the rules have been subject to only minor changes.
