"In this life, I regret only one thing — that I did not invent jeans" Yves Saint Laurent
An anarchist and feminist from fashion, it was he who dressed women in tuxedos and transparent blouses, invented a trapeze dress and safari style, introduced turtlenecks with a high neck and camouflage into fashion.
Yves Saint Laurent believed that the best clothes for a woman are the arms of a man who loves her.
"But for those who are deprived of such happiness, there is me," the maestro added.
Having battled depression, suicidal tendencies and drug addiction all his life, Yves Saint Laurent became the last of a galaxy of great artists who turned Paris into the world's fashion capital.
Modern fashion designers only recycle his rich creative heritage.
Today, the brilliant couturier would have turned 77 years old.
On his birthday AdMe.ru I have collected the most striking photos and iconic stories from the life of the fashion king Yves Saint Laurent.
"Over the years, I realized that the most important thing in a dress is the woman who puts it on"
On August 1, 1936, the future couturier Yves Saint Laurent was born as the third child in a prosperous family in the Algerian town of Oran.
The shy and secretive teenager was embarrassed by his non traditional sexual orientation and was afraid of his peers who offended him.
He loved his sisters and drew a lot.
The mother saw in the fragile and sickly boy a penchant for the design profession and made every effort to ensure that the son became what he became.

After graduating from school, she moves with a young talent to Paris, supports his participation in a competition for young designers and organizes useful meetings with the editor of Vogue and the great couturier Christian Dior.
At the age of 21, after the sudden death of Dior, Yves Saint Laurent becomes the head of the Christian Dior fashion empire.
The first show makes a splash and causes tears of delight.

Then in his life there was service in the army, the war in Algeria and the subsequent nervous breakdown, which was treated with electric shock and tons of tranquilizers in a psychiatric clinic.
A meeting with a business partner and the love of his life, Pierre Berger, a trial with Dior for illegal termination of the contract and the opening of his own Yves Saint Laurent House in 1962.

The entire 50 year career of Saint Laurent was bright and controversial, like the maestro himself.
He was praised and condemned, and he himself hid from outsiders behind the thick lenses of his horn rimmed glasses and was filmed completely naked in an advertisement for his own perfume.
The beauty of the dresses interested him much more than the recognition of the public.
He valued privacy and his dogs more than noisy parties and annoying fans.
For him, there were no authorities and trends, but he subtly felt the fresh wind of the hooligan 60s.

Yves Saint Laurent became a legend during his lifetime after he finally dressed a woman in a tuxedo and a pantsuit.
In the late 60s, it was a real shock.
When a fashionista in trousers and a YSL tuxedo first came to the restaurant of the Plaza Hotel, she was pointed out to the door for the wrong dress code.
Then the lady simply took off her trousers, to which the maitre d ' had nothing to object.

At the same time, the couturier has always believed that the strength of a woman is precisely in her femininity.
Yves Saint Laurent has repeatedly stressed that in order to be beautiful, it is enough for a woman to have a black sweater, a black skirt and go arm in arm with the man she loves.
His next hit was a transparent blouse.
Yves Saint Laurent was the first to bring black models to the podium and created a collection made in a camouflage style at the height of the Vietnam War.
"Love is the best cosmetics.
But it's easier to buy cosmetics"
It was said about Saint Laurent that he was "born with a nervous breakdown".
The fashion designer himself has repeatedly admitted to being addicted to drugs.
But his main dope was his boundless love for the beautiful.
Saint Laurent made 1000 sketches for one collection in two weeks.
Then 200 of the best were sewn off for a month and a half.

Russian Russian Saint Laurent was a great admirer of Russian culture and everything Russian.
He collected Bakst, created outfits for Maya Plisetskaya and Rudolf Nureyev.
And he also had three bulldogs, whose names were Muzhik I, Muzhik II and Muzhik III.

In 2002, Yves Saint Laurent retired, ending his career with a farewell show.
In the final of the fashion show, the couturier's long time muse and best friend Catherine Deneuve came to the podium and performed a song for him.

Saying goodbye to the podium before plunging into seclusion, Saint Laurent said: "I feel that I created the wardrobe of a modern woman and participated in the transformation of my era.
I did it with the help of clothes and I am very proud that women all over the world today wear pantsuits, tuxedos, double breasted jackets, trench coats."
Six months later, Yves Saint Laurent sold his fashion house.
"I have known fear and terrible loneliness, tranquilizers and drugs, "fake" friends, prison, depression and clinics.
I emerged from all this, blinded, but sobered up, " Yves Saint Laurent said at the time.
"Clothing should be subordinated to the personality of a woman, and not vice versa"
For the last six months of his life, the couturier was seriously ill, could not move and speak independently.
Yves Saint Laurent died on June 1, 2008 at his Paris home from a malignant brain tumor at the age of 71.
His ashes, according to his will, were scattered over the garden of the Villa Majorelle in Morocco, which he loved very much.
The Yves Saint Laurent brand lives to this day.
"I would be happy in paradise only if the angels are dressed with taste and wear their halos with an elegant tilt"
Pierre Berger once said: "I do not know if fashion can be called art, but I know for sure that fashion needs an artist."
