Ilya Kulik biography
Ilya Kulik was born in Moscow on May 23, 1977.
He first put on skates at the age of 5.
His mother brought him to the figure skating section.
His very first coach was V. Gromov.
Then Viktor Kudryavtsev became his coach, who brought up many famous names in figure skating.
Ilya Kulik was no exception, having won his first award at the age of thirteen in Norway.
In 1994, he won the junior championship of Russia and successfully participates in the" adult " championship.
Where he rises to the second step of the podium, getting into the Russian national team The following year, in 1995, Ilya Kulik made a splash, making his debut at the European Championship.
He immediately wins the gold medal, beating his opponent Alexey Urmanov, who was leading before the start of the short program.
Before the 1996 competition, Tatyana Anatolyevna Tarasova gave him a new free program.
She makes significant changes in terms of choreography and complex elements.
In particular, he did the triple axel twice.
But, unable to cope with the excitement, the young figure skater Kulik fails the program with a bang in 1996 at the European Championship.
However, in the same year at the World Cup, he performs it brilliantly.
Which allows him to take the second place.
And since May 1996, Tarasova has been taking Ilya under her wing.
However, in the 1997 – 1998 season, the skater did not pamper his fans with success.
Together with the coach, they begin preparing for the 1998 Olympic Games.
Tatyana Anatolyevna tried to make a program for Ilya Kulik, balancing its elements.
Already in the short program on the Olympic ice in Nagano, Ilya takes the lead by performing an exciting cascade of jumps: triple axel and sheepskin coat.
A purely executed free program with refined choreography allowed him to achieve Olympic gold.
Since 1999, Ilya Kulik has been retiring from amateur sports to professional sports.
He takes part in the "Champions on Ice" and "Stars on Ice" tournaments, reaching the top step of the podium in both competitions.
