Elena Olegovna Serova (born April 22, 1976, Vozdvizhenka village, Ussuriysky City District of Primorsky Krai) is a Russian cosmonaut test pilot of the Gagarin Research Institute of the Central Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The second Russian woman, after Elena Kondakova (the fourth taking into account the USSR), who made a space flight.
In 2016, she was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation.

Elena Kuznetsova was born on April 22, 1976 in the family of a serviceman.
Due to the official circumstances of the father, the family repeatedly changed their place of residence.
In 1993, she graduated from Secondary School No. 99 of the Western Group of Troops in Grossenhain, Germany.
In March 2001, she graduated from the Aerospace Faculty of the Ordzhonikidze Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) with the qualification of "engineer".
In 2003, she received a second higher education at the Moscow State Academy of Instrument Engineering and Informatics (MGAPI), majoring in economics.
She is married to Mark Serov, a former test cosmonaut of RSC Energia, and has a daughter: Elena Markovna Serova (born 23.01.2004).
On February 7, 2014, at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, she had the honor to raise the flag of the Russian Federation as part of a group of legendary cosmonauts of the Soviet Union and Russia led by Sergey Krikalev[1].

Before joining the cosmonaut squad, she worked as an engineer of the 2nd category of RSC Energia and in the Mission Control Center.
In December 2006, she was enrolled in the cosmonaut squad of RSC Energia "set of 2006" [2] as a candidate for test cosmonauts.
In 2009, Serova was awarded the qualification "test cosmonaut" of RSC Energia.
Since 2011, Elena has become a test cosmonaut of the Roscosmos cosmonaut squad.
On December 15, 2011, by the decision of the Interdepartmental Commission, Serova was appointed a flight engineer to the main crew of the Soyuz TMA 14M[3].
From January 2012 to March 2014, she was trained as part of the backup crew of ISS 39/40.
On March 24, 2014, at a meeting of the State Commission in Baikonur, she was approved as a flight engineer of the 1st backup crew of the Soyuz TMA 12M.
On March 26, 2014, during the launch of the Soyuz TMA 12M TPC, she was a stand in for flight engineer 1 of the ship's crew.
She was preparing for a space flight as part of the main crew of ISS 41/42 as a flight engineer of the ISS, and a flight engineer of the Soyuz TMA M spacecraft.
On September 24, 2014, at a meeting of the State Commission for Conducting Flight Tests of Manned Space Complexes, she was approved as a flight engineer of the 1st main crew of the Soyuz TMA 14M TPC.

On September 26, 2014, she started as a flight engineer of the 1st manned Soyuz TMA 14M spacecraft.
On the same day, 5 hours and 46 minutes after the launch and successful docking of the ship with the ISS, she joined the 41st and 42nd main expeditions as a flight engineer, becoming the fourth Russian woman (taking into account the USSR) who visited space after a seventeen year break, and the first of them — on the ISS[4][5].
On March 12, 2015, as part of the crew of the Soyuz TMA 14M spacecraft, she returned safely from the expedition.
On September 23, 2016, by order of the head of the CPC, she was dismissed from the post of an instructor of a test cosmonaut of the 2nd class and dismissed from the CPC in connection with her election as a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
