Biography[edit / edit wiki text]
For the first thirty five years of my life, I was confused: I didnot know what I wanted, and who I was.
I suffered from loneliness and drove myself to the grave: I drank, ate all sorts of nasty things, slept little, smoked like a steam locomotive.
When my family tried to stop me, I didnot understand, I thought it was all nonsense.
But their words stuck in my head.
If I continued in the same spirit, I would definitely stretch my legs.
Johnny Depp
Childhood and youth[edit / edit wiki text]
John Christopher Depp II was born on June 9, 1963 in Owensboro (USA, Kentucky).
His father, John Christopher Depp Sr., worked as a civil engineer, and his mother, Betty Sue Palmer — was a waitress. [8]
He has two sisters, Debbie and Christy, and a brother, Daniel.
The family was not prosperous — there were regular conflicts and quarrels between the parents, the children had to endure the bullying of their father all the time, and when Johnny turned fifteen, his parents divorced.
Later, Depp expressed about his childhood, so:
In the life of each of us, there were difficult moments, harsh times, we had to go through them.
But compared to what children have to go through at the present time, my childhood was blessed, so it's a sin for me to complain.
My mother married for the second time, to the writer Robert Palmer (died in 2000), whom Johnny later called "his inspiration"[9].
Johnny Depp's grandfather comes from the Cherokee Indian tribe, and his great grandmother is from the Creek tribe[10].
The death of the grandfather, with whom the boy spent all his childhood, negatively affected the child's psyche.
Depp also had a hard time moving to Florida.
From the age of 12, he began to smoke, drink alcohol, and at the age of 13 he began to lead a sexual life.
After his parents ' divorce, he started using drugs, and soon he was expelled from school.
Soon he found another hobby for himself — he took up music.
His mother gave Depp a guitar, which he learned to play on his own.
Soon he joined the group " Kids "(eng. The Kids), who performed in Florida nightclubs.
At the age of 16, Depp dropped out of school, wanting to devote his life to music.
Depp used to play in the band "P".
Another hobby of Johnny is drawing, he was the author of the album cover of the band.
Depp is also fond of literature, and one of his favorite authors is Jack Kerouac, whose work greatly influenced Johnny's perception of the world as a teenager.
Career[edit / edit wiki text]
The beginning of a career[edit / edit wiki text]
At the age of 20, Depp married makeup artist Lori Ann Allison, who was five years older than him.
She introduced Johnny to Nicolas Cage.
Cage persuaded Depp to meet with his agent, who arranged for him to audition for a role in the film "A Nightmare on Elm Street", which became Depp's first acting job.
However, music still remained in the first place for him.
He hoped that the film would be a good help to his work, but, contrary to Depp's hopes, the group broke up.
Depp then appeared in a number of television shows, as well as in the Oliver Stone film "Platoon" as Private Lerner.
However, in the final version, almost all the scenes with his participation were cut.
The TV series "Jump Street, 21" gave Johnny Depp the status of an idol of teenage girls, which he could not stand and tried with all his might to get rid of it.
Depp received his first Golden Globe nomination for the main role in Tim Burton's film "Edward Scissorhands".
With this film, the regular collaboration of Depp and Burton begins.
Roles in Burton's films played perhaps the most significant role in the formation of the actor's popularity.
1990s[edit / edit wiki text]
In 1990, Depp played the main role in the film of the infamous film director John Waters "Crybaby".
In 1993, Johnny Depp played the main role in Emir Kusturica's film "The Arizona Dream", which won a prize at the Berlin Film Festival and was a great success in France (unlike the United States, where it was not released in any of the cinemas).
In the same year, Depp opened the Viper Room club, which he co owned for almost 10 years.
In 1994, Depp began an affair with fashion model Kate Moss.
Depp's film career was going uphill.
After parting with Moss in 1998, Depp meets the French singer and actress Vanessa Paradis and moves to France.
The couple has two children daughter Lily Rose Melody (May 27, 1999) and son Jack John Christopher III (April 9, 2002).
He has a villa in the South of France near Saint Tropez, a house in Los Angeles and a small mansion near Bath.
In 1995, Depp played the main role in the Jim Jarmusch film "The Dead Man".
In 1995, the film "Don Juan DeMarco" (Don Juan DeMarco) is a romantic drama with Johnny Depp in the title role.
In 1997, Depp made his directorial debut (except for the film "Stuff", shot for Johnny Depp's friend John Frusciante): he made the film "The Brave Man", in which he also played the main role.
The film was received extremely coldly and was not a success.
Also in 1997, he starred in Michael Newell's crime drama "Donnie Brasco", based on the true story of an FBI employee Joseph D. Pistone, who was introduced into the Bonanno family mafia group in the 70s of the last century.
In 1998, Terry Gilliam's film "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" was released, in which Depp played together with Benicio del Toro.
The film, which clearly demonstrates Depp's phenomenal acting abilities, did not meet with understanding from a wide audience, but it acquired the status of a cult among moviegoers.
In 1999, Depp starred in two dark films at once: Roman Polanski in the thriller "The Ninth Gate", as well as in the successful Tim Burton horror film"Sleepy Hollow".
The latter became the first blockbuster film in Depp's career.
Johnny Depp has a named star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood No. 7018 opened on November 16, 1999.

In 2000, Depp took part in an independent film project — the film by Julian Schnabel "Until the Night Comes", based on the memoirs of the Cuban poet Reinaldo Arenas.
Depp performed two supporting roles in the film at once: the prison transvestite Bon Bon and the sadistic jailer, Lieutenant Victor.
The Spaniard Javier Bardem starred in the role of Arenas himself.
The film "Until the Night Comes" was shot for sixty days in Mexico.
Johnny Depp worked all these days just like that, without payment.
The film was released in December 2000 and was warmly received by critics.
In the same year, Depp took part in Lasse Hallstrom's film "Chocolate", where he partnered with French actress Juliette Binoche.
In this film, Depp played a gypsy.
Another Depp project at the end of the millennium was the film directed by Sally Potter "The Man who Cried".
In this film, Depp starred for the third time together with actress Christina Ricci (Depp and Ricci's previous collaborations were the films "Fear and Hatred in Las Vegas" and "Sleepy Hollow").
In" The Man Who Cried", Depp again has a minor role: he plays the gypsy horse thief Cesar, who is in love with the heroine Ricci.
The film was released at an unfortunate time, on May 25, 2001, simultaneously with such box office hits as" Lara Croft: Tomb Raider "and" The Mummy Returns", collecting only one million dollars as a result.
In 2001, Depp also starred in the film "Cocaine" with Ted Demme, the nephew of the famous Oscar winning director Jonathan Demme.
This film is based on the true story of drug dealer George Jung, who was epp, preparing for the role, even visited in prison.
In 2004, for the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the blockbuster "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl", Depp was nominated for an Oscar.
He received the second nomination in 2005 for the main role in the film"Magic Country".
He received a third nomination for the film "Sweeney Todd, the demon barber of Fleet Street" in 2008.
In 2005, Depp played the role of the owner of the Willy Wonka chocolate factory in the film "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award the following year (it is noteworthy that Johnny suffered from a chocolate allergy as a child[11][12]).

In 1999, he received the "Honorary César" award in France.
In 2007, Depp was awarded a Golden Globe for his leading role in the film "Sweeney Todd, the demon barber of Fleet Street", but the awards ceremony was canceled due to a strike of screenwriters in Hollywood.
On June 2, 2008, at the MTV Movie Awards, Depp received two awards in the categories "Best Screen Villain" for his performance as Sweeney in the film "Sweeney Todd" and "Best Comedy Role" for his performance as Captain Jack Sparrow in the film "Pirates of the Caribbean: At the End of the World".
2010 [edit / edit wiki text]
In 2010, Depp, along with Angelina Jolie, starred in the film" The Tourist", directed by the" Oscar winning " director Florian Henkel von Donnersmark.
For this role, the actor received the Teen Choice Awards and People's Choice Awards, and was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award, which, together with the significant commercial success of the film (the tape collected 278 million US dollars), confirmed Depp's status as one of the most successful actors on the planet.
On May 11, 2011, together with Penelope Cruz and Jerry Bruckheimer, he presented the fourth part of the pirate saga "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strange Shores"in Moscow[13].
In 2011, Depp played in the film "Rum Diary", based on the book of the same name by Hunter Stockton Thompson, a close friend of Johnny.

In 2015, Depp, along with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry, formed the band Hollywood Vampires.
In the same year, the crime drama "Black Mass" is released, the film tells the story of the famous Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger.

Personal life[edit / edit wiki text]
Depp's father is a Greek by nationality.
In 1983, Johnny Depp began dating artist Lori Ann Ellison, they got married on Christmas Eve of the same year.
This marriage ended in 1985.
The next passion of Johnny Depp was the actress Jennifer Grey.
Their relationship began in 1989.
Little is known about this novel.
Perhaps because it didnot last very long.
Johnny was together with Winona Ryder from 1989 to 1993.
They lived together for five months, and five months later a ring appeared on her ring finger.
But their relationship ended before they could get married.
In 1994, he began dating British supermodel Kate Moss.
In 1998, his new love was Vanessa Paradis, a French actress and singer.
They had two children a daughter Lily Rose Melody in May 1999 and a son John Christopher (Jack) Depp III in April 2002.
On June 19, 2012, Depp's publicist made a statement that Depp and Paradis had broken up,[16] in the last two years, Depp and Paradis have not attended public events together.
Later, both actors confirmed the breakup, calling it voluntary, and said that they remained friends.
The reason for the breakup was Depp's relationship with his partner in the film "Rum Diary" Amber Heard, which began in 2011.
In January 2014, he proposed to her.
On February 3, 2015, Depp and Heard got married, but in May of the following year, Amber filed for divorce, a few days after the death of Depp's mother[17]
In January 2017, the divorce was officially formalized.
Johnny Depp bought the island of Little Halls Pond Cay in the Bahamas archipelago[18].
Once, CNN reported on the death of an actor in a car accident[19].
But in the end it turned out that the" news " was the work of hackers who hacked the channel's website.
Depp has poor eyesight — he has not seen well with his left eye since childhood, and he is short sighted in his right eye, so he constantly has to wear glasses[20].
Problems with the law[edit / edit wiki text]
In 1994, Depp was arrested in connection with the alleged intentional damage to furniture in a New York hotel[21].
He was arrested again in 1999 for fighting with paparazzi during dinner outside a London restaurant[22].
