The main Life of the city Cosmonaut Malenchenko visited Peresvet
Cosmonaut Malenchenko visited Peresvet
Publication date: April 15, 2013.
Modest, quiet, intelligent, laconic...
However, after such a dotted line of epithets, the reverent thought involuntarily arises that before you is a man who has five (!) flights into space, the last of which he made at a fairly mature age, at 50, landing on Earth not so long ago - on November 19, 2012.
Despite the direct involvement of Peresvet in the space industry, our city has not been too spoiled recently by the visits of astronauts.
Therefore, the arrival of Yuri Malenchenko caused a curious stir among the citizens.
The first part of the cosmonaut's visit program consisted of a tour of the RCP Research Center and remained inaccessible to ordinary people, but many citizens came to see the cosmonaut and communicate with him at the Peresvetovsky Cosmonautics Museum: students of the technical school, veterans of NIIhimmash, curious press.
And one of the former employees of the institute (out of modesty, he preferred to keep his name secret) brought his work to the meeting – a portrait of Yuri Gagarin carved on a blackboard, on which the signatures of star cosmonauts were emblazoned on the back: Bykovsky, Leontiev and the most rare - Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin.
Yuri Malenchenko did not come to the museum by chance for a rare exhibit.
In the exposition of rare exhibits of the museum there is one that is directly related to the cosmonaut.
This is Block A No. 212 of the SOYUZ TM lander, on which Malenchenko flew as part of an international crew – NASA astronaut Sanita Williams and Japanese agency astronaut Jax Akihiko.
According to the curator of the museum Khvostov, the descent unit is also unique in that it has a high degree of thermal protection, which allows the ship, passing through the dense layers of the atmosphere, not to burn out, and the astronauts safely return to Earth.
In a solemn atmosphere, Yuri Ivanovich cut the ribbon in front of the unique exhibit and made a memorable inscription on the board of the block with chalk: "Thank you! Malenchenko".
Of course, it will not last long, but it will remain in the photo archives of the city.
The cosmonaut has five flights and several spacewalks behind him.
- - I performed the second flight on the Shuttle spacecraft.
This is an American system, we performed it as part of the International Space Station program.
Our task was to integrate the service module into the general system.
It took five days for all the work that we performed, including in outer space, " Yuri Malenchenko told reporters.
There is another amazing fact in the cosmonaut's biography, which, however, he was modest to share.
On the third flight in 2003, his space wedding with the American Ekaterina Dmitrieva took place.
This marriage was then noisily described by the press: "the celebration takes place in the Houston restaurant "Villa Capr".
This restaurant is a traditional place where astronauts, astronauts and people in general working at the Lyndon Johnson Manned Space Flight Center located in Houston are used to celebrating important dates and events and just getting together.
The bride said her "yes" while on the Ground and watching her beloved via video link.
"It was very cool, very touching," said the happy bride, standing next to a cardboard figure depicting her groom.
The bride sent the groom to orbit a tailcoat, in which he entered into marriage.
The cargo ship also delivered an engagement ring to the ISS.
American astronaut Edward Lu witnessed and even performed a wedding march on a portable synthesizer, the BBC reports.
It is noteworthy that the young people did not plan such an extravagant marriage at all.
The wedding was supposed to take place in August.
By this time, the cosmonaut was already planning to fly to the ISS and return.
However, due to changes in the flight program, his expedition was delayed, and in August Malenchenko was in orbit.
At first, Rosaviakosmos opposed this idea, claiming a violation of military discipline.
But the Texas authorities considered that Malenchenko had a completely valid reason not to attend his own wedding, and allowed the wedding.
The bright smell of apples To the question, would he change his profession now that he knows what risk it is associated with?
Malenchenko replied: "I was a military pilot and then I received an offer to pass the selection and become an astronaut.
Flying into space sounded like a fantasy, and I couldnot miss this opportunity.
I have never regretted this choice.
Therefore, if someone from the younger generation decides to link his life with cosmonautics in the future, he will never regret it."
The cosmonaut considers the smell of apples to be the most vivid impression upon arrival on Earth.
"There are almost no smells in space, because there the purified air is obtained without impurities.
Therefore, when you return to earth, you are immediately picked up by a wave of all odors, to which the body reacts very sensitively, - Yuri Ivanovich shared his impressions.
Bringing apples to the planting site is a good tradition.
There is even a certain variety – Alma Ata very fragrant apples."
Malenchenko also preferred not to spread too much about the everyday details of space life.
He only mentioned that there are icons for Orthodox cosmonauts at the Mir stations, and now on the ISS, and a temple has been erected on the territory of the Star City.
By the way, at the place of Yuri Gagarin's death in the village of Novoselovo, cosmonaut Leonov is restoring the church, and the bells on the bell tower bear the names of famous cosmonauts.
Will space tourism develop?
It will definitely be, it's only a matter of time, Yuri Ivanovich is sure.
The person is curious.
In many ways, the opportunities that we have today were obtained thanks to this simple quality.
Our outer space is huge, although man has advanced very far in it.
But we have already settled into low Earth orbit.
If you look further, it is such a depth and distance, such a huge number of stars and planets!
Of course, a person is drawn to go further, to see what is there in the universe.
And the fact that tourists have started flying into space suggests that we have reached such a degree of development that it is only pleasing.
According to Malenchenko, there will come a time when space flights will become more accessible and safe for almost everyone.
Already parting with the cosmonaut, we asked him if he ever has nostalgia for the sky?
- I think that every cosmonaut has it.
When a certain time passes after the flight, there comes a moment when it begins to pull back.
I'm not thinking about flying yet, because I only returned from another space expedition in November.
And about the sixth flight – it will be seen closer to the point.
