The day after returning to Earth and arriving in Star City, he took part in an experiment to test a manual controlled descent from orbit to the surface of Mars on a CF 18 centrifuge to assess the possibility of landing on the surface of the planet in manual mode after a six month space flight.
On the fourth day after landing, he took part in an experiment to work out typical operations for going to Mars and working in a spacesuit on the surface of this planet as part of the study of the capabilities of astronauts to perform operator activities after a long space flight.
The purpose of the experiment was to evaluate the possibility of cosmonauts performing operations to prepare the spacesuit systems and the airlock complex for extravehicular activity, control the spacesuit systems and other equipment during the airlock and VCD, as well as testing individual typical operations on the surface of the planet and obtaining experimental data on the quality of operations performed by astronauts.
The cosmonaut's movement and performance of individual operations on the surface of the planet were solved in simulated conditions of reduced gravity with a simulated gravity on the surface of Mars 0.38 of the gravity on the surface of the Earth.
For this purpose, a special simulator "Exit 2" with an active silo compensating dewatering system was used, designed for astronauts to work out the processes of airlocking in standard Orlan MK spacesuits.
During the experiment, standard operations related to reaching the surface of the planet were worked out: control of the spacesuit systems and other equipment during the airlock; moving the astronaut on the surface of the planet; lifting and descending the ladder; performing the docking of electrical connectors; installing and removing antennas.
The results of the experiment showed the possibility of carrying out operator activities by astronauts on the surface of the planet after performing a six month flight in zero gravity.
On February 20, 2014, at a meeting of the Main Medical Commission, he was declared temporarily unfit for training for a period of 6 months.
On April 22, 2014, following the results of the examination of his medical report at the meeting of the Main Medical Commission, he was again not allowed to participate in special training.
By the order of the head of the CPC dated November 5, 2014, he was dismissed from the post of instructor of the test cosmonaut.
