10 examples of how Steve Jobs changed the world
06.10.2011 18:20
There will never be a leader like him in the world again.
The former head and co founder of Apple has transformed the human attitude to technology... forever.
Steve Jobs (1955 -2011)
Steve Jobs passed away today at the age of 56.
He has forever changed the way we think and use technology, putting his stamp on everything from the personal computer to the music industry.
We will not retell the biography of this Man for the hundredth time with a capital letter.
We'll just give 10 examples of how Steve changed this world.
1. Design
For Jobs, the appearance of the product was of great importance.
While PC manufacturers were chasing high speed processors, Steve followed a "smart" minimalist design.
One of the former Apple employees recalls a meeting with Jobs, who was thinking about the attractiveness of mini coopers (an old colleague was engaged in their sales at that time).
In the end, Steve decided that the cars were advanced because of their small dimensions.
Then Steve said that Apple should warn of really good metal in its products.
Most computer manufacturers at that time used plastic, but Jobs knew that to become smaller, you need a different quality material.
The move paid off : Apple's aluminum laptops became bestsellers.
The latest MacBook Air models were cited as an example of the perfect intersection of design, price and performance.
2. Music
The new millennium was characterized by a rapid transition to digital content delivery.
Publishers had to think about protecting music from illegal downloads.
Apple launched iTunes in 2003.
A digital content service that charges for music.
Its ease of use and close integration with the popular iPod proved attractive to consumers.
Now iTunes is the largest music retail network in the world, with more than 200 million registered users who have downloaded 15 billion songs.
PK
It's easy to forget, but Jobs and Apple co founder Steve Wozniak were able to popularize the idea of a personal computer by releasing the Apple II, a massive 8 bit computer encased in plastic.
It became one of the most successful PCs in the 1980s.
Apple II has fundamentally changed the way people work.
A lot of time has passed since then, but despite the growth of Windows computers, Mac sales also continue to grow.
Post PC era
Similar to the PC revolution with the Apple II, Jobs created a revolution in the post PC era by introducing blows of smooth glass and aluminum called the iPad.
Once the idea of computing tablets stalled due to poor execution.
Users looked incredulously at the attempts of Microsoft and its partners to create a hybrid laptop.
Even Apple tried to develop something similar through failures and innovations in the 1990s.
In the IPAD, everything was created harmoniously and correctly : an enviable portable form factor, an affordable OS and a reasonable price.
In 2010, about 14,700 thousand units of the tablet were sold.
And just last quarter, sales exploded by 183%, proving that people need portable devices.

Apple's marketing over the years may well be one of the most innovative.
Starting in 1984, the company introduced Super Bowl ads.
And if you remember how all the media talked about the company, waiting for its next new product... and all this without a penny of investment in advertising... it is worth taking off your hat to Apple.
iPhone
Apple has turned the moribund mobile phone market upside down.
In 2007, Apple introduced the iPhone, a device that led the smartphone revolution, thanks to a minimalist design, a large touch screen and a solid OS.
Jobs was involved in every stage of the initial development process of the device, which cost the company $ 150 million.
Users should also thank Jobs for Visual Voicemail, which pushed aside the standard voicemail system.
Ecosystem
The so called "ecosystem" concept may be one of the most long term contributions of Jobs to global business.
The idea is simple: to create a closed environment that combines hardware, software and services that, thanks to close integration, provide excellent opportunities for users.
Think of iTunes, where users buy and listen to millions of songs, download them to an iPod or iPhone.
Mac OS
Apple's OS has always tried to be simpler than its competitors MS DOS, Windows or Linux.
By making the operating system simple and easy to use, macOS maintains a strong reputation for accessibility and stability - something that has not always been possible to say about Windows for many years.
Apple Stores
Apple's first retail store in Tyson's Corner was met with great skepticism.
10 years have passed, 345 stores have appeared, the story has changed.
The success of Apple has encouraged Microsoft to repeat its steps (with varying success).
But the key lies at the heart of the store's design.
Jobs decided that the ideal trading platform scheme consists of areas placed on the basis of consumer interactions.
That is, in one part of the store, you can test the operation of the camera, printer and computer, in the other get acquainted with multimedia tasks, etc., taking into account the emphasis on practical demonstrations, to familiarize consumers with the product.
Apple Inc.
Ultimately, Jobs ' biggest contribution is not just a smartphone, tablet or operating system, but Apple itself - an organization with 12,000 employees, an organization that used to be on the verge of uselessness...
When Jobs returned to the company in 1997, he rebuilt Apple and created the most valuable technologies in the world, ahead of such giants as Microsoft or HP.
This could really be the greatest turnaround in business history.
And there's nothing better illustreret the success of the company as the scale and design of the new headquarters for 2.8 million square feet ( 300,000 square feet for research and a hall for 1000 seats and underground Parking).
"I think we have a chance to build the best office building in the world," said jobs, who never agreed on anything but the best.
