Benjamin Franklin
The story of Benjamin Franklin is the story of a man who achieved everything in his life by himself, went from a half educated person to a famous scientist.
His portrait is placed on a hundred dollar bill.
Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts.
There were 16 other children in the family besides him.
Franklin went to school, but his father could not pay for his full course of study, so when Benjamin was 10 years old, he began working in a printing house and a candle making workshop.
In 1727, he organized his own printing house, which published the Pennsylvania Gazette and Poor Richard's Almanac.
He independently learned several European languages, as well as Latin.
Interested in the phenomenon of electricity, he began to study it and made several inventions, many of which are still used today.
This is a lightning rod, bifocal glasses, an electric fuse.
Franklin opened the first public library in the United States, founded the American Philosophical Society and the University of Pennsylvania.
He was the author of the idea of summer time.
Franklin's scientific achievements were recognized by scientists, he was elected an honorary member of several foreign academies, including the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences.
Franklin is also known for his diplomatic work in London (1757-1775) and Paris (1776-1785), where he helped strengthen the international position of the United States - with his assistance and participation, the American French Treaty of Alliance (1778) and the Treaty of Versailles (1783) were concluded, according to which Great Britain recognized the independence of the United States.
In 1785, he served as president of the Pennsylvania State Legislature.
Franklin is one of the authors of the US Constitution of 1787.
Benjamin Franklin owns a number of popular aphorisms, the most famous of which are "Time is money", "Do not postpone for tomorrow what you can do today" and "If you want to sleep soundly, take a clear conscience with you to bed".
Benjamin Franklin lived a long and fruitful life and died on April 17, 1790 in Philadelphia.
