William Shakespeare
Playwright and poet, humanist and Renaissance man William Shakespeare is considered a great English language writer, the national poet of England and one of the best playwrights in the world.
His plays have been translated into all major languages and are staged more often than the works of other authors.
And film studios shoot pictures based on the works of Shakespeare, which are relevant today no less than in the author's time.
William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564 in Stratford upon Avon (England), in the family of a craftsman.
His father was a glover who was respected in the city.
My father was even elected mayor once.
William studied at a grammar school, which was considered one of the best; the main subjects in it were English, Latin and ancient Greek.
At the age of 18, Shakespeare married the daughter of a neighboring landowner.
His wife was 8 years older, there were three children in the family.
Around 1587, William moved to London, around 1593 he joined the theater company of R. Burbage, working both as an actor, as a director, and as a playwright.
From 1590 to 1594, Shakespeare created the so – called "early chronicles" - historical plays "Richard III", "Henry IV", the tragedy "Titus Andronicus", the comedies "The Taming of the Shrew", "The Comedy of Errors".
He writes poems - "Venus and Adonis" (1593) and "Lucretia" (1594), sonnets, plays.
Only sonnets in the period from 1592 to 1600, he wrote more than one and a half hundred.
In 1595-1600, William Shakespeare wrote "King John", "Richard II", "The Two Men of Verona"," A Midsummer Night's Dream"," Romeo and Juliet","The Merchant of Venice".
This period in Shakespeare's work ended with truly outstanding comedies "Twelfth Night", "Much Ado about Nothing", "The Windsor Pranksters".
In the early 1600s, a turning point came in Shakespeare's work – tragedy becomes the main genre for him.
In the period 1608-1614, Shakespeare created some of his best works: "Hamlet", "Othello", "King Lear", "Macbeth".
During his creative life, the great playwright wrote 17 comedies, 11 tragedies, 5 poems, more than 150 sonnets and about 10 chronicles.
There is still a debate about whether Shakespeare was the author of all these and other works.
Soon, for unknown reasons, Shakespeare resigns and returns home from London, where he spends his last years of his life with his family.
There are suggestions that he was ill during this period: his will, dated March 15, 1616, is written very illegibly.
The great playwright William Shakespeare died on April 23, 1616 in his native Stratford upon Avon.
According to the will, his body is buried under the altar of the church in Stratford.
