Biography of Sergey Dovlatov
Sergey Donatovich Dovlatov is a talented writer and a well known Soviet journalist.
In his works, he set a super task – he tried to make all the words in all sentences begin with different letters.

Childhood and family of Sergey Dovlatov
The future writer was born in a typical Soviet international family.
Sergey's father (a Jew by nationality) is a Mechik Donat Isaakovich, worked as a stage director in the theater.
The mother of the writer Dovlatov Nora Sergeevna (Armenian by origin) was a literary proofreader.
During the war, the Dovlatov family was evacuated from Leningrad to Ufa.
The family spent all 3 years of evacuation in the house for NKVD employees.
After returning to Leningrad, Donat Mechik left his family and his further communication with his son was limited to correspondence.
Sergey grew up a calm child.
Being noticeably taller and stronger than his peers, he never had a reputation for fighting, on the contrary, he was often offended by classmates.

In 1962, Dovlatov was drafted into the army, where he served until 1965.

In 1972, Dovlatov moved to Tallinn and began working as a correspondent for the local newspaper "Soviet Estonia".
Then there was a job in the newspaper "Evening Tallinn".
At the same time, he sent reviews to the magazines "Neva" and "Zvezda".
The Tallinn period of life is significant for an attempt to print a collection of "City stories" in the publishing house "Eesti Raamat", but by order of the KGB of the Estonian SSR, the book set was destroyed.

In 1975, Dovlatov returned to Leningrad.
He began working in the magazine "Koster", and then as a guide in Mikhailovsky (Pushkin Reserve).

This was the reason for the exclusion from the Union of Journalists of the USSR.

Following his wife Elena and daughter Ekaterina, the writer first left for the Austrian capital in 1978, and then moved to New York.
In New York in 1980, he headed the newspaper "New American", published in Russian, and at the same time worked at the radio station "Svoboda".

In America, Dovlatov began a completely different life.
If the writer could not publish a single book at home, then in America his prose books were published one after another.
By the mid 1980s, Dovlatov had become a popular writer in the United States, his works were published in such popular magazines as Partisan Review and The New Yorker.
During the years spent in exile, twelve books by Dovlatov were published in the United States and Europe.

The writer's personal life was not easy, and relationships with women were quite complicated.
He was considered an incorrigible philanderer.
He was officially married twice - to Asa Pekurovskaya (1960-1968) and Elena Dovlatova (1969-1971).
He was once in a civil marriage with Tamara Zibunova (1975-1978).

It is interesting that the first daughter of the writer - Katya was born in 1966 from the second wife, and the second - Masha – 4 years later - from the first.
Five years later, his common law wife gave him a third daughter, Alexandra.

He met his first wife, Asya Pekurovskaya, when he was a student.

In 1960, they officially registered their marriage.
The second favorite woman of Dovlatov was Elena Dovlatova.

But until the end of his life, Dovlatov could not determine which of these two completely different women he loves more.
