Johann Sebastian Bach a brief biography
Johann Sebastian Bach a brief biography
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) was a great German composer.
Of course, you can say that, but it sounds too depressing in the case of the person we are talking about.
This is not just a great classic, the fruits of whose creativity have enriched this world and even in our time sound more than relevant.
Bach is rather a whole milestone in the history of music.
And this fact is absolutely impossible to hide, such a variety and influence of various trends as in the music of Johann Sebastian is not observed in any other composer (belonging to the era in question, it is called "the era of great composers").
What allows us to say this?
This is the feeling that arises when you play Bach's works, it seems that the one who composed it thought for a long time and very seriously approached each bar of his works, each bar is a kind of small work of art, not just developing the composition, but bringing its own flavor to it.
Bach's music is full of shades, it is very rich and there are many musical thoughts in it.
In Bach's time, art was mainly determined by the tastes of the court and the requirements of the Protestant church.
It was with such requirements that the great composer had to face and it was these requirements that he never adhered to, because any boundaries for such a freedom loving person as Johann Sebastian were like death.
Because of this persistent non compliance with the rules, the musician's life was very difficult and full of humiliations.
His plans were grandiose, but they did not fit into the idea of what secular or spiritual music should be.
Johann Sebastian Bach, was born in 1685 in a town called Eisenach.
The composer's ancestors were mostly ordinary workers, but they were also fond of music.
A descendant of Johann Sebastian Faith Bach was a simple baker, but even took his musical instrument - a zither with him to work.
It is known through descendants that he was a very musical person.
It was probably he who became the starting point for the creativity of his offspring, because the musical gift passed in this numerous and branched family from father to son.
There are about fifty musicians, the Bach family, who in one way or another influenced the musical culture.
But none of them ever achieved great fame.
The first hero of this article was taught music by his father, who was also a musician and played the violin.
In addition, the boy went to the school choir.
At the age of nine, the future great composer lost his parents and moved to live with his brother.
Johann Christoph was an organist and also worked as a music teacher.
Now Johann Sebastian was studying with him.
However, the lessons received from his brother could not fully satisfy the child's curiosity.
Therefore, Bach was still studying independently, in secret from his brother.
When he reached the age of 15, the young man wanted to leave and he got a job in the city of Lüneburg, where he could have a small income from his musical activities.
At the same time, he studied at a school, which he graduated brilliantly.
Now, with a diploma, he could go to university, but the realities of life did not allow him to do this - he had to provide for himself, and the only thing that could help him in this was the persistent improvement of his musical skills.
None of his teachers particularly influenced the formation of the composer's creative style, he himself found the necessary inspiration in the huge legacy that existed before him and existed in his present.
During his studies at the Lunenburg School, he studied many compositions by various musicians from Germany and Italy, which were in the extensive school library.
Also, being interested in the work of Reinken, Bach often went to Hamburg to attend concerts of this famous organist at that time.
it is also very likely that the composer also attended the opera in Hamburg, which was then in its heyday there.
Among other things, Bach's work was undoubtedly influenced by communication with Georg Boehm (1661-1733), a famous German composer, whose teacher was Reinken himself.
In this way, the years of apprenticeship for the young Johann Sebastian passed in Lüneburg.
Johann Sebastian Bach - Weimar and Arnstadt
After Lüneburg, Bach went to Weimar to work as a violinist in a small princely chapel.
But this did not last long - the work did not satisfy creative needs.
Therefore, Johann Sebastian does not hesitate to respond positively to the invitation to take up the post of court organist in the city of Arnstadt (it was in 1704).
It was in Arnstadt that the composer had his first encounter with the misunderstanding and stagnation of the church leadership, whose requirements were not met by the desire of the young musician to introduce something new into the cult church works.
The fact is that a man like Bach simply could not restrain his creative energy, because he had a lot of ideas about how to enrich and develop the church music that existed at that time.
However, no one in the Protestant church wanted to violate the existing dogmas and orders.
The variations that Bach played seemed to them just an attempt at such a violation, so unusual they sounded then.
Due to the resistance of the church authorities, the composer's creative fervor began to cool down, so he decided to go to the city of Lubeck for a short time.
A famous musician was conducting organ concerts there.
In 1705, in the autumn, Bach still had the opportunity to implement his plans, since he was given a vacation.
The composer could not find money for a carriage to Lubeck, and he had to walk.
But it was worth it!
The delightful playing of Dietrich Buxtehude shook Bach to the depths of his soul.
It shocked him so much that he completely forgot about the time allowed for his trip - instead of the prescribed month, he spent four times more time there.
The church authorities, for the offense committed, arranged a humiliating interrogation for Bach, and then made a formal trial over him, with charges being brought.
They accused him of adding a lot of alien sounds to the musical accompaniment, of improvising too long during the service, introducing many incomprehensible variations all this allegedly embarrassed the community...
After such a "warm" reception, the composer had no other choice but to leave Arnstadt (he stayed there for only three years).
It should be noted that during his stay in Arnstadt, Bach was able to achieve very good results in his craft.
His performing skills have become extremely high.
His first compositions as a composer also began to appear.
These first compositions show the musician's desire to convey human feelings and thoughts truthfully from the point of view of psychology.
Here is some of what Johann Sebastian Bach wrote in the Arnstadt period: The cantata " You will not leave my soul"; "Capriccio on the departure of a beloved brother" (a suite consisting of completed miniatures).
