The history of fast food.

What American doesnot like fast food?
Fast food can be loved or disliked, but it is impossible not to admit that it embodies all the features of American civilization.
Fast food is democratic.
It is available to everyone from a beggar to a millionaire.
This is speed and mobility.
The first networks appeared along highways and railways.
This is standardization, because the main thing in a hamburger is not taste, but predictability.
This is transparency, it is very important that the client sees the cooking process.
And this is simplicity and convenience.
Manual food – food without forks and knives.
The history of fast food, that is, the preparation of inexpensive and quickly prepared food goes back to antiquity.
The cities of Ancient Greece, Rome, and China were full of snack bazaars.
In ancient Rome, the fast food culture was called thermopolis.
The Romans even had a peculiar kind of hamburger.
This is a flatbread made of chopped beef mixed with crushed nuts, which was served with bread.
And the old Russian hot cakes that were carried through the streets and often served together with sbiten?
After all, this is nothing more than the Old Russian national version of fast food.
A hot dog is a symbol of fast food.
Without hot dogs, as well as without hamburgers, cheeseburgers, it has been impossible for many years to imagine not only modern America, but also other industrialized countries.
According to one legend, a hot dog or just a sausage in a dough was invented by the cook of the Roman emperor Nero in the I century AD, and according to another by the ancient Greeks.
Some believe that the prototype of the sausage is mentioned in Homer's Iliad.
Residents of the Austrian capital are firmly convinced that their sausage liner is the forerunner of the hot dog.
The German city of Frankfurt also claims the name of the homeland of the hot dog.
In 1987, the 500th anniversary of its invention was celebrated there on a large scale.
The Bavarians living in the town of Hassendorf even erected a monument to their countryman Johann Georg Laner.
Grateful descendants believe that it was he who invented the modern type of sausage at the beginning of the XIX century.
In 1804, Laner moved from Frankfurt to Vienna, where he opened the first butcher shop.
And there he presented to the amazed customers his invention, a sausage, which the Viennese called "Frankfurt" or "Vienna".
When the sausages "sailed" across the Atlantic Ocean, no one will say for sure.
But already in the 60s of the XIX century, emigrants from Germany began to open the first restaurants in the United States where sausages were served.
According to legend, the owner of a grocery store, a German emigrant Charles Feldman, for the first time dropped a sausage into a fresh bun.
The popularity of the innovation exceeded all expectations.
It is believed that the name "hot dog", that is, "hot dog", appeared in the student folklore of the mid XIX century.
Students called the vans in which sausages were sold dog vans, since dogs were constantly circling around them.
Sports competitions have always been popular in America, and manufacturers and sellers of hot dogs have taken advantage of this.
At all such competitions, hot dog sellers were sure to appear, who offered their goods to the fans.
In the 20s of the XX century, hot dogs became the most popular food in the United States.
And this is not surprising, because it was during these years that America turned into an industrialized country.
At the Ford automobile plant, conveyors began to work with might and main.
The pace of life has rapidly accelerated, and this has increased the demand for fast food.
In the thirties of the XX century, hot dogs won the love of Americans so much that President Roosevelt did not lie to his soul, treating the English king with a hot dog.
On June 11, 1939, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt had a picnic in the American Hyde Park for the British royal couple.
Hot dogs were offered to the distinguished guests as a national dish.
George VI and Elizabeth liked the treats.
That's the story of fast food.
And how do you feel about fast food?
