Oparin A. A. Ancient cities and Biblical Archeology Part III.
Empires that rejected God
Chapter 3
The Mayan Civilization
The history of this people, who never created a single state following the example of the Aztecs or Incas, is divided into three periods the first is the pre May era (several centuries before the Christian Era to 317 AD); the second is ancient (from 317 to 987); the third is new, which is divided into the period of the "May Renaissance" - until 1194; the period of "Mexican influence" - 1194-1441 and the period of decline 1441-1697.

The Maya lived in independent and independent clans, the main of which were: tutul shpu, Kokoma, Kanepi, Pechi and Cheli.
Each of these independent tribes formed a city state, also independent, with adjacent lands and towns.
They were headed by a ruler — a "great man" who was elected for life and enjoyed unlimited rights.
There was a state council under him.
The oldest Mayan cities were Tikal, Quirigua, Itza.
In the 10th century, the Mayan lands were invaded by the Mexican Toltec tribes led by Kukulkan, who merged with the local population, bringing their own customs to it.
At this time, new major cities of the state are being created — Ulimal, Mayapan and Chichen Itza.
In addition to these Mayans, dozens of other major cities of the states were erected, striking travelers with their size and beauty.
The Maya erected the most magnificent temples and palaces, many of which surpassed the Aztec and Inca ones.
The Maya developments in the field of mathematics and astronomy were hundreds of years ahead of their time, surpassing all the European achievements of those times.
And many of them are understood and appreciated only in our time.
It should be noted that the Maya first invented the digit zero and the numbering system.

Achievements in architecture also had no equal not only in beauty, but also in the correctness of architectural forms.
But behind all this was the sinister Mayan religion — a religion that can be safely called misanthropic.
At the head of the priests was the priest "Prince of snakes".
How it echoes with that ancient serpent Satan, who seduced Eve in Eden!
He had an excellent staff of assistants who, before reaching the rank of priest, received knowledge of astronomy, hieroglyphic writing and astrology.
There were even some kind of advanced training courses for the priests, where they were given special lectures.

The Maya gods were Itsaina the God of the sky, Yum Kaam - the God of corn, Shaman Ek the God of the Polar Star, Kukulkan - the God of the wind, Ah Puchi the God of death, and for each individual day, and even for numbers, the Maya had gods.
The sacrifices of the Maya and their religious rites were even more terrible than those of the Aztecs, although in many ways they resembled them.
The victims were thrown on the altar, then the priest also cut their chest and tore out their heart, sprinkling blood on the statue of the god, after which the skin was torn off the corpse, in which the priest was dressed.
After that, the human body was cut into many parts, which were immediately eaten by priests and nobles!
It was a real mass cannibalism.
The number of victims reached tens of thousands on the days of big holidays and celebrations.
The entire population of the cities howled with delight at such ritual actions.
People were losing their human appearance.
Immorality and orgies became more and more widespread, finally turning the once great tribes into little able degraded people.

The human mind, separated from God, again suffered a complete defeat, showing its limitations and weakness.
The Spaniards, having met with the Maya in 1502, a few years later, under the leadership of Francisco de Montejo, conquered the once great civilization.
The Maya, who once built great cities, could not, being completely morally decomposed, resist the Europeans.
In 1697, the last city of Maya, Tayasal, was destroyed.
At one time, our Lord Jesus Christ, while on earth, said a parable recorded in the Gospel of Matthew 7:24-27: "And so everyone who hears these words of mine and does them, I will liken to a prudent man who built his house on a stone: and the rain came, and the rivers overflowed, ...and rushed on that house; and it did not fall, because it was founded on a stone.
But everyone who hears My words and does not do them will be like a reckless man who built his house on the sand; and the rain came, and the rivers overflowed... and they leaned on that house; and it fell, and its fall was great."
This parable applies to both individuals and states.

Those who build their lives on the foundation of faith, on the living stone that is the Lord Christ, will endure any trials and tribulations with His help and will survive; and those who rely on their human reason and strength, sooner or later will suffer a complete collapse in their lives, as proved by three ancient American peoples — the Aztecs, Incas and Maya.
