Elizabeth I and Dudley: love since childhood
Society "Family" Everyday stories
There are two famous Maidens in history — the Maid of Orleans and the Queen.
The" Virgin Queen " was called the English Queen Elizabeth I. By the way, she was the only woman in correspondence with whom Ivan the Terrible was.
English merchants spread rumors in Moscow and London about Grozny's readiness to marry Elizabeth.
But it didnot go further than rumors.

However, Ivan Vasilyevich twice hinted to Elizabeth that he did not exclude the possibility of arriving in England, and the queen twice guaranteed "dear brother" (as she addressed the tsar in correspondence) a decent reception, security and free departure to any country of his choice.
However, this is far from evidence of Grozny's matrimonial intentions.
Even in the virgin life there is love.
Elizabeth was no exception.
This is a story about a queen who loved, but never married.
They were almost the same age, perhaps a year younger (there is an ambiguity here).
As children, they played together and studied with the same teacher.
That's just unlikely, too, together.
Unlike Elizabeth, who was successful in the humanities, Robert Dudley (Robert Dudley) preferred mathematics and physics and showed remarkable abilities.
Then they were also inseparable.
On November 17, 1558, 25 year old Elizabeth ascended the throne and a childhood friend was appointed equerry (Master of the Horse) of the Queen.
Robert Dudley was one of the five sons and 13 children of John Dudley, later Duke of Northumberland (1.
Duke of Northumberland).
The family trait of the whole family was an irrepressible character and boundless ambition.
The favorite's grandfather, Edmund Dudley, a minister of Henry VII, was executed as a state criminal for fantastic bribery and embezzlement.
The father, having married the son of Lord Guildford (Lord Guildford) to Lady Jane Grey (Lady Jane Grey), ruined him and died himself.
John Dudley decided to make a queen out of his daughter in law, but instead was declared a state criminal and imprisoned in the Tower of London.
Robert was also in this gloomy prison.
He was pardoned thanks to the intercession of the Spanish King Philip II.
Sir Robert justified his coat of arms — a polar bear standing on its hind legs holding a gnarled stick in its front paws.

The first rumor that Elizabeth was infatuated with her equerry swept through the yard in April 1559.
The Queen really often spent time in his company.
Envious courtiers gossiped that Lord Robert should have paid more attention to his wife, Amy Robsart.
Their marriage lasted for nine years, but there were no children.
When the gossip reached the queen's ears, she was indignant at how it was possible to think so badly about her behavior, because she was always surrounded by ladies in waiting and servants.
"However," Elizabeth said with dignity, " if I wanted to or I would find pleasure in it, I donot know anyone who could stop me."
On April 23, the Day of St. George, the patron saint of England, the Queen made Robert Dudley a knight of the Order of the Garter — the highest knightly award.
When Lord Dudley was wearing the distinctive badge of the order — a black garter decorated with diamonds, which was tied under the left knee, the motto Honi soit qui mal y pense ("Shame on the one who thinks badly about it") was embroidered on it caused an unkind smile from some of those present at the ceremony.
Not only aristocrats, but also black people told stories about the" sweet couple " of Robin and Bess.
Of course!
Elizabeth made another truly royal gift — she appointed Robert as the caretaker of her residence in Windsor.
Even the all powerful head of the government of Queen Elizabeth and Secretary of State William Cecil (William Cecil) for the first time gave up and asked to resign.
In a letter to the Spanish ambassador, Cecil outlined his thoughts about Dudley, who, for the sake of the queen's hand and the crown, might try to get rid of his poor wife, although he "hopes that God will not allow such a crime to happen."
On September 8, 1560, the body of Amy Robsart was found in an empty house near the stairs.
When falling from a height, a 28 year old woman broke her neck.
At the same time, a cap remained on his head in a strange way.
As a suspect in the murder of Dudley, he was forbidden to appear before the Queen.
The investigation concluded that an accident had occurred.
It was suggested that the young woman decided to commit suicide in this way, because she had heard rumors about her husband's desire to marry the queen.
On the eve of her death, she dismissed all the servants.
It turns out clumsily somehow with the stairs.
It was possible to fall down the stone stairs and, having received bruises, abrasions and even fractures, stay alive.
Historians are still at a loss whether there was an accident (she slipped on slippery steps), suicide or contract murder.
Pundits hypothesized that Amy suffered from breast cancer, which metastasizes to the thoracic and cervical vertebrae, making them extremely fragile.
This unfortunate incident forever branded Robert Dudley in the eyes of his contemporaries.
Although it is quite possible that he was not involved in the death of his wife.
In addition, if Dudley had eliminated his wife in order to become king or Prince Consort, then after such a universal scandal, it would have become absolutely impossible for Elizabeth to get married.
The English ambassador to France claimed that "every hair stood on end, and his ears drooped" from what he had to hear about his queen.
In Paris, Mary Stuart was surprised: "The Queen of England is going to marry an equerry who killed his wife to make room for her!"
A few years later, she herself and her lover, the Earl of Bothwell, will make an attempt on her husband.
Elizabeth still loved her "dear Robin", who almost ruined her honor.
And although the favorite, while the investigation was going on, continued to sit in his house in Kew and had no right to appear at court, new favors were prepared for him.
Elizabeth signed state papers.
She was granted a patent granting Robin the title of Earl of Leicester (1st Earl of Leicester).
And suddenly, instead of a pen, Elizabeth grabbed a paper knife and plunged it into the letter.
"You canot trust someone who has two generations of traitors in his family," she said in the presence of witnesses to her outburst of anger.
At the meeting, Robin reproached his Bess for an undeserved offense.
She patted his cheek and said: "Well, no, a bear with a staff is not so easy to overturn!"

The earldom was promised to Dudley after the Christmas festivities.
But he didnot get it after Christmas either.
Robert was a great dancer and Elizabeth was always willing to dance with him.
Apparently, during the dance, Robert whispered in her ear about marriage.
When the Queen was asked if she would marry Lord Robert Dudley, her reaction is known: "No, then my subjects will call me 'Lady R. Dudley'."
This marriage would have been a political miscalculation, despite the fact that Robert had no rivals in the queen's heart.
And he knew it.
The clever Cecil drew up a memorandum with an analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of such a misalliance.
"We will achieve nothing by marrying him, neither in terms of increasing wealth, nor in terms of adding political weight, dignity or power.
Besides, they will think that the slander about him and the queen was true.
He will not care about anything other than giving his personal friends wealth, positions and land, which will offend others.
He is disgraced by the death of his wife.
He's all in debt.
And it seems that he showed himself jealous of Her Majesty, " the adviser stated.
As a sovereign Good Queen Bess Elizabeth understood everything perfectly, but as a woman she continued to behave like a dog in the manger.
Without saying " yes " or "no", the queen continued her cat and mouse game with her lover until the autumn of 1562, when she fell down from smallpox.
Several courtiers had already died of the infection, when Elizabeth regained consciousness dictated her last will: in the event of her death, appoint Robert Dudley as Lord protector of the kingdom.
The posthumous gift of a woman in love.
But the youngest daughter of Henry VIII recovered.
He did not ascend to the throne, but on September 6, 1564, on the feast of St. Michael, Dudley received the long — promised title he became Baron Denbigh and Earl of Leicester.
At the dedication, the Queen gave Robert a friendly slap on the cheek.
The relationship between the lovers finally deteriorated when Elizabeth began to show signs of attention to Sir Thomas Heneage (Sir Thomas Heneage).
The Earl of Leicester did not remain in debt, especially since his passion Letitia Knollys (Lettice Knollys) was not only attractive, but also smart.
The Queen was jealous.
Once at Windsor Palace, an unattractive scene took place in front of the courtiers.
At the end of the quarrel, Elizabeth threw a fatal phrase in his face: "If you intend to rule here, I will make sure that this does not happen.
There will be only one mistress here and there will be no master! "
After that, their romance at least lasted until Robert's death in 1558.
Shortly before her death in the early spring of 1603, 69 year old Queen Elizabeth wanted to return and see her capricious Robin again.
The smell of the rose remains in the hand, even if the rose is discarded…
