The World Wide Web: the history of the creation of the Internet Mar 10
Author: Nurlan Kemelbekov
Nowadays, almost every house has a computer and they are connected to the Internet.
Anyone on Earth knows what the concept of the Internet means.
What does the World Wide Web mean, what is the history of the creation of the Internet, what decisions were pursued by its authors, how did the development take place and how did it eventually become the way we know it now?
The idea was born back in 1957, when the US Department of Defense realized the importance of creating a reliable information transmission system in war conditions.
To accomplish this task, DARPA - the Office of Advanced Development of the US Department of Defense — took up the creation of a computer network.
The computer network, hereinafter referred to as ARPANET, was created only after twelve years.
Four scientific organizations participated in the creation: the University of California, the University of Utah, the University of Santa Barbara and the Stanford Research Institute.
The birth of the Internet can be considered October 29, 1969, on that day, the first data exchange took place between two ARPANET nodes, whose intention was to share resources and support communication.
The first email client, which has gained great popularity, was created in 1971.
The year 1983 was a transitional year for the Internet, it was then that two radical events occurred:
a) the NCP standard, on which the ARPANET network was based, changed the standard to TCP/IP, which is still the most widely used; b) ARPANET changed its name to "Internet".
In 1984, ARPANET shared its path with the National Science Foundation, which organized an independent NSFNet network – the network composition included smaller networks with high bandwidth.
A year later, a brisk rival was taking more and more from ARPANET.
In just a year, o included about 10 thousand computing devices in its composition and selected the name "Internet".
The fundamental task for NSFNet was to provide access to the resources of the foundation, to various educational institutions in America – to enable any technical or scientific employee to connect to an integral network.
For this purpose, emphasis was placed on the development of a Network with high speed channels, which would have the feasibility of joining other types of networks to itself.
During the development process, the scientific foundation received a "reference Network" that could provide a stable Internet connection to a large number of users.
This network topology led to the fact that by 1985 there was a sharp increase in the number of connected computers to the NSFNet network.
The idea of what we usually call the "World Wide Web" (WWW) appeared in 1989, when Tim Berners Lee suggested using it.
He also created the URI character strings, the HTML hypertext markup language, and the HTTP Data Transfer Protocol.
In 1990, the ARPANET network could no longer compete with its opponent in the face of NSFNet, and so its history ended.
This year, for the first time, there was a connection to the Internet via "dial up", i.e. via the public telephone network.
The Web became publicly available in 1991, and in 1993 the first program for viewing pages on the Internet appeared.
In 1995, providers began to determine the traffic paths, and the role of the experimental network was again transferred to the National Science Foundation.
By 1997, the World Wide Web, which almost absorbed the name "Internet", had about ten million computers in its number.
The popularity of the World Wide Web was becoming more and more.
On January 22, 2010, an open access to the World Wide Web took place from the International Space Station.
As of 2011, the number of Web users on Earth reached almost 2.1 billion.
Today, the Network has the feasibility of connecting via electric cables, cable television, satellite communications, fiber optic connections, radio communications, and cellular communications.

Today, the Internet has firmly entered into all branches of human activity.

The World Wide Web has brought us not only information and money, but also a new type of disease Internet addiction.
I recommend reading an article on this topic on the page Internet addiction: the effects of drug addiction and give your assessment in the comments.
