Biography of the writer
In St. Petersburg, back in 1905, on January 20 (February 2), the most beautiful, and later, one of the most famous writers and philosophers of American culture was born.
Her parents gave her a fairly simple name Alice Zinovievna Rosenbaum, which she later decided to change to Ayn Rand.
When Ayn was only 9, she realized that writing fiction would become her lifelong occupation, her career.
She always imagined herself as a European writer, and after meeting Hugo, she finally realized that she did not like Russian culture.
To protect themselves from the fighting that took place during the Bolshevik Revolution, the family moved to the Crimea, where Ayn graduated from secondary school.
In the last year of training, the girl firmly decided to go to America.
After the return of her family from the Crimea, Ayn studies at the University of Petrograd.
There she is overwhelmed with philosophy and history.
In 1924, a student finishes her studies.
Among the gray everyday life of her life, Ayn finds solace in operettas, Western films, plays.
In 1924, she became a member of the State Institute of Cinematographic Arts, where she studied screenwriting.
Then Ayn published her first booklet and brochure.
A chance meeting with director Cecil B. de Mille turned into a chance for the girl to get a great job in the film, and then become a junior screenwriter.
At this stage, Ayn met actor Frank O'Connor, who later became her husband.
For the next 10 years, Rand carefully studied English, literature, and writing.
She studied various English language scripts and stories.
Her first novel was based on the difficult experience of life in Russia.
Every edition, every book written by Ayn's hand, is still in print.
At least hundreds of thousands of copies are sold every year.
Several volumes of the writer were published posthumously.
She changed the outlook on the lives of thousands of readers and became an influential author in American culture.

Anthem
This is a long story, and the spirit that moved it is the spirit of human freedom.
But what is freedom?
Freedom from what?
No one and nothing can take away a person's freedom, except other people.
To be free, a person must be independent of his brothers.
This is true freedom.
This and nothing else.

They are always not the same as at the last meeting.

The Atlantean squared his shoulders.
Non Resistance: Alice Rand read the entire trilogy, watched the film adaptation, but in order to try to write my review and understand what I feel about this book, I had to turn over a lot of information and opinions on different sites, as well as study the author's biography.
While I was thinking about how I feel about this book, I realized one thing: kngia did not leave behind indifferent people.
You can admire the plot, the writing, the characters and the idea, or you can not bear anything for yourself.
All opinions (like the book itself) are divided into "black" and "white".
I would like to write my pros and cons for this book: Pros: 1. I really liked Ayn Rand's idea of drawing parallels with the ancient Greek Atlas, which held the sky, and modern Atlanteans, who keep the world in balance and develop and move progress.
2. The attempt to beat socialism and the possible consequences, when socialism is accepted by the state, but not accepted by society, turned out to be quite good.
When it is possible to" legitimately " oppress and take away what is not yours.
And what happens when people who move progress.
they are engaged in their favorite thing and disappear (because seeing such an injustice, people of the lighter would not be able to accept or stop acting).
I read about the crash with great pleasure.
the collapse and panic of parasites who are used only to drinking blood.
Minuses.
1. All the characters are described extremely one sidedly: either good and noble, or bad and stupid.
Because of the" zashtampovannosti " characters, dialogues and actions become predictable.
2. The book, like the movies, is drawn out and boring because of its cliches.
In general, I did not spare the time to read this book.

I absolutely did not like the book.
I mastered a few chapters and that's it!
The style is a la Daria Dontsova, in a word, the author is a woman.
And this idiotic question is also inserted out of place.
Now I understand.
why the writer did not become widely known in our country.

The Atlantean squared his shoulders.
Non Resistancein Alice Rand There are books around which you walk for a long time, you look after, you do not dare to start in any way.
So it turned out for me with Atlant.
How many times I came across him in a bookstore on specially organized racks with recommended books, so many times I passed by, although I held my gaze for a long time and twisted it in my hands.
I was repelled by the volume and the confidence that came from somewhere that this was something recently written, modern and advertised reading material.
I was very surprised when I found out that he is already more than half a century old.
I am very glad that one day I started reading.
And as I started, I couldnot tear myself away until I finished all three books.
In fact, the work has not been captured for a long time so that I wanted to absorb a fairly large volume without interruptions.
Ayn Rand sings a song to reason.
"If you canot make a decision because of the conflict between the mind and the heart," Galt said, "trust the mind."
The heroes, Atlanteans, are confident in their principles, actions, clearly and smoothly move towards their goals.
It is very motivating, it just starts the internal engine with its energy.
Although in the work, in my opinion, the division into black and white is too clear, it is useful to listen.
Especially for people who are too guided by emotions.
The book definitely helped me to build a new picture of perception, to push me to a balance between feelings and logic.
And mental balance, although not the engine of progress, is clearly pleasing.

The Atlantean squared his shoulders.
Non Resistancein Alice Rand Imagine a world from which all the talented people have disappeared: economists, industrialists, inventors, scientists, artists, philosophers, creators.
All those who push humanity forward.
Imagine a world in which there is no more room for the future, because the Atlanteans who created it have thrown off this burden.
This is the world that Ayn Rand shows us.
It is worth saying that "Atlant" is somewhat different from its counterparts in the dystopian genre.
If in Huxley and Orruel we see the world already brought to the point of absurdity, then in Rand, we observe the very process of decay in all its glory, all the monstrous changes, both at the level of entire states and individual people.
That is why one can believe in the dystopia described in "Atlanta" more than in the variants of other writers.
As a literary work, Atlanta has several notable disadvantages.
And if the poor language of writing can be justified by the fact that for Rand, who emigrated from the USSR, English was not her native language, then absolutely cardboard heroes can not be written off for anything.
If the character is positive, then this person is necessarily highly moral, with the appearance of an ancient god, at least having an extraordinary mind and a burning eye.
The antagonists are all stupid, cowardly, and illustrate all the possible vices of humanity.
And yet, this novel has received incredible recognition in the world.
Why?
It's very simple.
A whole layer of philosophy of the 20th century passes through the entire narrative with a red line.
The philosophy of objectivism.
For the sake of this, "Atlant" is worth the time spent on reading.
It is difficult to say whether the reader will like it or not, someone will find everything written in it complete nonsense, for someone it will be a revelation, but this novel will definitely not leave the reader indifferent.

We are alive, Alice Rand No one knew, but "We are alive"
I will say that, although "We are Alive" is Rand's first novel, it is easier when you have already read "The Source" and "Atlas Shrugged", because you understand everything, no matter how banal it sounds, without words.
That it is not Kira Argunova who walks on the dirty sidewalks of St. Petersburg, but Rand herself, young and pale, dressed in a shabby coat.
It's funny to look at her uncertainty and childish stubbornness, at her naivety, at how the sprouts of still green objectivism are just beginning to break through all this.
Only after reading the first novel do you fully understand the helplessness of the common conclusions that, they say, Rand's characters are flat and one sided.
To say so is like saying to a person - " Come on, find some weakness, some vice - show us that you are multi faceted!".
People at all costs need literary heroes to resemble them, so that they have something in common.
After all, then it is easy to pull any hero off his pedestal, you can say "you" to him, you can disassemble him in literature lessons.
Literature...
Now in the Unified State Exam in literature, it is proposed to first read an excerpt from the novel "Crime and Punishment", and then insert the missing name of the river.
The name of the river!
Why the hell did Dostoevsky bother with the novel at all?
So that those to whom it is not obvious for some reason, know what kind of fucking river flows in St. Petersburg?
(>> wearily waves his hand in despair).
Okay, let's leave this conversation, and then, what good will both authors turn over in their coffins: a Jewish woman who ran away to America and a Russian classic who was reputed to be an anti Semite in one post.
After "We are alive", I felt as if I was watching a movie, and not reading a book: I perfectly remember a small room in the house of Admiral Kovalensky and I know how shabby furniture is arranged in it.
What the bathroom floor looks like, how the blackness from the dampness spreads along the walls.
I saw every step leading to Comrade Taganov's room and every Soviet poster.
Well, this is most likely due to the fact that I really saw all this, in a sense.
In essence, I can only say that the book was one of those that I had to read and that I fell in love with, and for this reason I do not want to advise anyone for fear of sharing it with the wrong people.

Thank you for your feedback!
She has been reading in English for a long time, her friends were passionate about her and gave her a gift.
An incredible impression.
You have noticed so well that all the details of everyday life, the urban landscape are so ours, our relatives.
And no one else (maybe it will sound terrible), not even Pasternak, conveyed so clearly and to the point of pain in his heart how terrible and tragic the events of 1917 were.

Sourcein Alice Rand I mastered it and now "The Source" has become the book of my whole life.
On the one hand, I got great pleasure from reading and went headlong to the USA of the beginning of the XX century.
With another... still, it's a shame: I donot think I'll read anything better.
I do not know how you can write a review for such a strong, bright, lively and multifaceted work.
I have no idea how to contain all the thoughts expressed by the author, born in my head in the process of reading, and not forget anything.
I donot know how Ayn Rand managed to fit an entire philosophy, an entire system of worldview into two thin books.
Well, okay, not just very thin - but agree: what is 800 pages?
Especially when you donot read, but just go into the text, hang out somewhere between the lines, clinging to the words in search of the innermost meaning.
There is so much said honestly and openly, so simply, without any fuss; that in order to get to the line spacing, a separate reading is needed.
And then another one.
Or more than one.
This book is one of those that is re read.
One of the ones I'll come back to.
Although I rarely reread books.
This is really the Source.
A living key that strikes with extraordinary force into a stagnant, drying world.
A life giving key, every drop of which is able to transform the world around you, make flowers bloom, give someone a full breath.
This book is the Source.
Howard Roark is the Source.
Dominic is the source.
Although no ...
Dominique is not a source, she is an inspiration.
A gust of wind, a movement of air that is impossible not to notice.
It is impossible to say what this novel is about.
About the benefits of selfishness or about its harm?
About feelings and the fact that not all people are able to experience them.
Although no, everyone is capable.
But few are able to give themselves to them, to allow themselves to experience them.
That there is no person more unhappy than the one who betrays himself?
Is there no person more insignificant than the one who easily gives himself to the crowd, believing everything and not believing in anything?
About love, real, strong, whole, unselfish, sweeping away everything in its path and the truth of passion?
About architecture?
Classic or modernism?
About the power of the human mind and spirit?
About inflexibility, about faith?
About the human genius?
About dead souls and immortality?
About a musty society?
About power?
About the goals and means?
About everything at once?
And one more thing...
Each hero of the Source is a living, real person, a bright, unforgettable character.
Every story is told to the end, Ayn Rand did not miss anything, not a single detail.
Before us, one after another, other people's lives open up, mix, layer on top of each other.
And only the life of Roarke and Dominique will not end with the pages of the book.
These two people are not able to fit into anything, even in a book written by their creator.
They live their lives outside of it.
Oh, how I hope that they live there happily.
At least because it is not so important to them how they live.
Both Roarke and Dominic remained a mystery to me.
I couldnot really understand their motives, their actions.
Especially Dominic.
Only partially... but I believed her.
I couldnot help but believe it.
Every page, every paragraph caused a storm of emotions in me, suppressed in the bud by composure and calmness.
Both at the same time.
Ayn Rand's novel is not like any of the books I have read before.
Unlike at all, nowhere, nothing.
This is a completely different work.
It is so independent and disconnected from the world literary fund that one cannot believe in its existence.
As new and different as the buildings that Roarke built.
In fact, this is a real classic.
One of those things that you have to go through at school.
But it is too early to read the "Source" at school and, probably, it is completely useless.
Although, who knows what a schoolboy will see in it?
This is a philosopher fiya, a whole system of views from different sides.
This is a manual on psychology, this is a classification of personality types.
This is a fascinating journey to the beginning of the last century.
This is the story of the life of a whole and self sufficient person, a true egoist who sold his soul to art.
This is the story of the formation of a personality.
This is a story of personal degradation.
This is a visual aid for finding yourself and the happiness of your life.
This is the truth about how the capitalist world lives.
This is the wrong side of the business.
This is a book that you can talk about endlessly.
