All the most interesting things about the symbols of the Olympic Games in Sochi 2014!
On February 26, the symbol of the Sochi 2014 Olympics was chosen by SMS voting.
Just like at the Olympic Games in Vancouver, 3 mascots won the competition.
The Olympic symbols were designated: a polar bear, a leopard and a bunny.
GEO magazine expressed its opinion about the important role of the Olympic mascot.
According to the publication, the symbol should bring good luck to the participants of the competition, create a festive atmosphere and reflect the spirit of the country where the games are held.
Usually, the image of an animal, the most famous and revered in the host country of the Olympic Games, or a fictional creature acts as a mascot.
According to the results of voting, the following characters were in the lead when choosing the Symbol of the Olympic Games of the Winter Games in Sochi 2014: 1 place went to the Leopard (authored by Vadim Pak from Nakhodka) – 28, 2% of the people voted for him 2 place went to the White Bear (authored by Sochi resident Oleg Serdny) – 18.3% of the votes 3 place went to the Bunny (created by Sylvia Petrova from Chuvashia, Yantikovsky district, Novoe Buyanovo village) – 16.4% of the votes Dmitry Chernyshenko (president of the Organizing Committee) noted that for the first time in the history of the Olympics the symbols for the games were chosen by the whole country.
According to the Olympic principle, it was decided to choose 3 characters the winners of the popular vote.
Our country has chosen a Bunny, a White Bear and a Leopard, and these mascots of the Sochi 2014 Olympics have already entered the history of the world Olympic movement.
The mascot of the Olympics is the leopard Badger.
The author of this character (Vadim Pak) believes that a white leopard, similar in appearance to a snow leopard, is an excellent symbol for the Caucasus region.
After all, this animal is well acquainted with the mountain slopes, strong and hardy.
The friendly and cheerful leopard Badger will always come to the rescue.
In the qualifying round of the competition, it was said that this character helps people from Caucasian villages to escape from avalanches.
This mountaineer lifeguard loves snowboarding, dancing and does not like to be alone.
The leopard was nominated for the competition in Sochi in November 2010 (in Krasnaya Polyana).
In addition, it is worth drawing an analogy between the leopard Badger and the symbol of the Universiade in Kazan in 2013 – a snow leopard named Yuni.
Vladimir Putin himself (at that time the Prime Minister of Russia) cast his vote for the leopard Barsik.
The mascot of the Olympics is the polar bear Polyus.
The second finalist of the contest, which selected the mascots of the Sochi 2014 Olympics, was a good natured white bear.
Its creator, Oleg Serdny, told the story of this character: a white bear living beyond the Arctic circle was raised by polar explorers.
Thanks to them, he absorbed the love of sports.
Mishka is a fan of bobsleigh, loves to ride a sports sled, knows how to skate and ski, loves to play curling and run.
Sports pressure helps him in his desire to conquer new heights.
The white bear gets along well with children and is always ready to give them his care and attention.
The docile disposition and kindness make the White Bear look like its predecessor the symbol of the Olympic Games 80.
At the Talismania show, Polyus sang the famous song "Somewhere in the White World" together with Natalia Varley.
The mascot of the Olympics is A Bunny.
The purposeful and active Bunny was invented by a young artist from the Chuvash Republic, Silvia Petrova.
Sylvia is studying in the eleventh grade, she described with pleasure the character of the character she invented and told that her cheerful and optimistic heroine is engaged in sports, studies well and helps her mother in the work of a family restaurant called "Lesnaya Zapruda".
The most favorite sport of the Bunny is figure skating.
At the mascot contest, Bunny paired with Dima Bilan performed the song "About Hares", won the hearts of the audience and took the honorable 3rd place.
So the Bunny became the last symbol of the upcoming Olympics.
The organizers noted that the selected symbols of the Sochi 2014 Olympics (photos of which we can now see on various souvenirs) are excellent athletes.
Mishka is great at sledding and will help bobsledders, the Leopard is an experienced snowboarder who is ready to share his experience with all his friends, and the cheerful figure skater Bunny will help create a festive atmosphere during the Olympic Games.
The three mascots were not chosen by chance, because there are 3 places on the Olympic podium, the Olympics have 3 main values (friendship, respect and striving for perfection), and Olympic athletes are helped to win by 3 main qualities (speed, agility and strength).
Symbols of the 2014 Paralympics
But the mascots for the Sochi Paralympic Games were chosen by the champions and Paralympic athletes themselves, having decided that this important matter should not be trusted by public opinion.
As a result, it was decided that the Paralympics will be represented by a winter Snowflake and a Sunbeam.
These 2 symbols are able to convey the beauty of the cold Russian winter on sunny bright days.
The characters symbolize harmony and contrast.
These two opposites were able to find a common language and make friends, together they overcame all difficulties and achieved great success.
The union of a Ray and a Snowflake is designed to show people that nothing is impossible in life.
The authors of these cute characters are a resident of St. Petersburg, eight year old Anya Zhilinskaya (who created a charming Snowflake) and Muscovites Alexey Maslin and Natalia Balashova, who drew a Ray.
An amazing pair of Ray and Snowflake to the delight of the audience of the Talismania show danced a magnificent waltz from the movie "My affectionate and gentle Beast"on the ice.
