King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba
King Solomon, who was given the name Jedidiah at birth, which meant "Beloved of God", ruled the state of Israel for forty years.
Most often, the years of his reign are called 972-932 BC, and this time is marked by relative calm and peace in Israel.
No wonder the royal name of this ruler was the name Solomon (from the Hebrew word "Shlomo" - peace).
He came to the throne when he was barely twenty years old, but already in the first years of his reign, the young ruler proved to the Israelites his wisdom, organizational skills and strength.
He immediately fortified Jerusalem, built a fleet, allocated large funds for the development of trade with neighboring states, erected a great temple, and also encouraged the development of science and literature.
Solomon was distinguished by his love for women.
Some sources claim that he had about 700 wives and more than 300 concubines.
The oldest wife of the king of Israel was an Egyptian woman, who supposedly bore the name of Bethia.
One day, rumors about the wisdom and greatness of the Jewish ruler reached the imperious and strong queen of Sheba, Balkis, who ruled the country of the Sabeans, called by the ancients "Happy Arabia".
Majestic temples rose on her lands, the richest cities flourished, luxurious gardens were green and roads were built, and the people did not cease to glorify their wise queen.
Blakida claimed that her country was the richest in the world, and she was the wisest ruler.
The queen decided to see with her own eyes Solomon, who surpassed her in everything, and personally see his amazing mind and divine wisdom.
She set out on her journey, accompanied by several thousand servants who led camels loaded with gifts to the king of Israel: precious stones, exotic plants, the rarest mahogany and fragrant oils.
According to legend, Solomon met a foreign guest, sitting on a golden throne and dressed in golden clothes.
When the queen saw the ruler of Israel, it seemed to her that a golden statue appeared before her.
The great Solomon got up, went to the beautiful Balkis and, taking her by the arm, led her to his throne.
So the king has not yet received a single guest.
It was said that he immediately fell in love with a stranger and, admiring her beauty, spent all his days with her, talking about countries, the universe, God.
He took Balkis around Jerusalem, showed the buildings and temples built by him, and the queen did not cease to be surprised at the scope and generosity of the famous Israeli.
Finally, she finally admitted that she was inferior in everything to Solomon and no longer denied his superiority.
At the same time, the queen of Sheba made three riddles to the ruler of Israel, to which the king allegedly received an answer in advance from the priest of Sheba bribed by him and, without hesitation, immediately answered the queen.
The woman was even more amazed at the wisdom of the famous Solomon.
She, always proud and adamant, even agreed when he asked Balkis to become his wife.
However, before that, Solomon wanted to reveal the secret of the queen and thereby refute the terrible rumors about Balkis.
It was said about the Queen of Sheba that she was beautiful in appearance and amazingly wise.
She was even credited with supernatural abilities, often called the "queen of the jinn" and "demon".
However, it was said that for all the virtues of the lady of the Saveys, she had inhuman, goat like legs, and instead of feet, she had webbed, like a goose, paws.
The king in love wanted to see for himself whether this was the case or not.
To do this, the wise ruler of Israel ordered to make a transparent crystal floor in one of his rooms.
A pool was built under it, where the purest water was poured and fish were launched.
All this resembled a real lake, and it was possible to distinguish it only by getting closer.
Therefore, when Solomon led the queen into the prepared room, she, seeing the amazing pool, suddenly lifted her skirts so as not to wet them.
For a few seconds, her legs appeared from under her lower clothes, and the king of Israel saw real, human legs, only too crooked and ugly.
The offended queen gathered all the servants in one night and left Jerusalem without saying goodbye to Solomon, who had inflicted a cruel insult on the lady of the Sabeans.
The king quickly forgot the foreign guest and again enjoyed the concubines gathered in the royal harem from all over the world.
"A woman is sweeter than life and more bitter than death," Solomon said of his beloved.
He continued to build cities, strengthen the navy and build temples.
However, his entourage became increasingly dissatisfied with the wasteful policy of the ruler.
immediately after the death of the "wisest of kings", there was an uprising against the David dynasty and Israel was divided into two territories: Israel and Judea.
The latter was ruled for some time by Solomon's son Rehoboam.
