Julius Caesar | Plutarch | Osiris | Mark Antony | Cleopatra | Isis
Cleopatra is the last of the pharaohs, the first of the female politicians who dreamed of the Egyptian Roman empire, which became a real fact after the death of Cleopatra, with the only difference being that the monarchs of the empire were descended from Octavian, Caesar's great nephew, and not from Caesarion, his son.
The story of Cleopatra's life, her love and tragic death remains unraveled until the end.
For more than two thousand years, the image of Cleopatra has been shrouded in a romantic halo of mystery.
Historians, both ancient and modern, agree that Cleopatra was a woman of exceptional intelligence, power hungry, charming, daring, ambitious, unscrupulous, shrewd.
She spoke seven languages, was the author of books on philosophy, units of weight, measurements and the coin system, as well as books on hairstyles and cosmetics.
Cleopatra revived the rituals of the ancient religion of Egypt, adopted the symbol of the Goddess Hathor the daughter of the God Ra and believed that she was the representative of the Sun God on Earth, an intermediary between man and the Gods.
Bas reliefs depicting Cleopatra conversing with the God Amon are made on the walls of Egyptian temples (Dendera, Hermontis).
In the later years of Cleopatra's reign, events were dated, counting "from (or after) Cleopatra's union with Amon".
The myth of Cleopatra's divine connection was not something surprising or original.
Mythological fiction of this kind was used in ancient Egypt in relation to the births of Hatshepsut and Amenhotep III.
Cleopatra achieved the desired result with her brilliant mind, courage and boundless optimism, with the help of cunning, games, tricks, intrigues.
As the esotericists say, "she launched thought forms or thought images into materialization, "and then" let go of the situation" and achieved what she wanted.
For the ancient Roman poet Horace, Cleopatra was a woman " crazy enough to harbor the most fantastic hopes, being the favorite of fate."
Cleopatra was the last queen of Ancient Egypt, one of the daughters of King Ptolemy XII.
She became a queen at the age of 18 and until her death (at the age of 39) remained a person about whom the most beautiful and most mysterious stories are told.
Here are some of them:
* Cleopatra was identified with Isis, Venus Hathor, Venus Aphrodite.
There is a legend that one of her famous pearl earrings was cut into two parts and decorated the ears of the statue of Venus in the Roman pantheon.
Coins were found on which Cleopatra is depicted as Aphrodite with the baby Caesarion, who personified Eros.
In the ancient city of Ephesus (modern Turkey), the tomb of Cleopatra's own sister, Arsenoi, was discovered.
Analysis of the remains suggests that Arsenoi's mother was African.
Scientists suggest that the mother of Cleopatra and Arsenoi was a concubine of Ptolemy XII.
Perhaps Cleopatra had African blood in her.
However, as Arthur Weigal writes in the book "Cleopatra.
The last queen of Egypt", "Cleopatra probably had a bit of Syrian blood in her veins, since her grandmother, the mistress of her grandfather Ptolemy Latyra, was from this people.
Cleopatra undoubtedly had Macedonian, Greek and Iranian genes."
From the story of the ancient Greek philosopher Plutarch, it is known that Julius Caesar was "conquered by the proof of Cleopatra's brave mind" when she ordered Apollodorus from Sicily to roll her up in blankets, tie her with a rope, and so carry her through the palace gates to meet Caesar.
The Julian calendar, on which our current calendar system is based, was developed by a group of Alexandrian astronomers led by Sozigen and introduced by Julius Caesar on January 1, 45 BC.
Thanks to Cleopatra's proposal to invite her court astronomers to Rome, who introduced a new calendar system based on the Egyptian calendar
* When Mark Antony called Cleopatra for the first meeting, she postponed it several times.
At this time, Cleopatra was secretly building a grand surprise ship.
A huge vessel made of precious wood under scarlet sails, exuding a fantastic fragrance, sailed to Antony at dusk, to the sounds of the most delicate music.
When Antony came to himself from the shock, the twilight deepened, and a grand illumination was lit on the ship.
* The historical chronicles mention Cleopatra's bet with Antony, the essence of which was that she herself could easily spend an amount equal to several hundred thousand sesterces on one meal.
When at the end of the feast Antony calculated the total amount of expenses, Cleopatra said: "Now I will try to spend the agreed amount on myself."
The queen took off her earrings with two huge pearls, each of which was worth more than half the amount declared in the bet, took out one of the pearls, threw it into a bowl with vinegar and drank the contents.
* According to Plutarch, at the end of the feasts that Cleopatra organized for Antony, the queen gave each guest a sofa on which he reclined, cups that stood on the table in front of him, and the most important guests - palanquins along with slave carriers.
She provided less significant guests with horses in golden harness.
* In memory of the marriage of Antony and Cleopatra, coins were minted, on which their heads are depicted and their names are written.
In honor of this event, Cleopatra began a new chronology of her reign, and on coins issued six years later, next to the heads of Anthony and the queen, there is an inscription: "In the reign of Queen Cleopatra, in the 21st, which is also the 6th year of the Goddess."
* For the entertainment of the Romans at the feast, Cleopatra once ordered to strew the floor in the banquet hall with roses half a meter high.
The flowers formed a solid carpet thanks to the nets that were stretched over them and attached to the walls, and the guests walked to their couches on a fragrant carpet.
* Since Cleopatra's extravagance knew no bounds, and her wealth seemed inexhaustible, the alchemists of those times believed that the queen owned the Philosopher's stone, which gave her the ability to turn simple metals into gold.
* It was said about Cleopatra that the queen does not get drunk thanks to a magic ring with amethyst, which has the ability to expel wine fumes from the head of the one who wears it.
* Galen (an ancient physician) has preserved a curious recipe of Cleopatra for the treatment of baldness.
Perhaps this was the same recipe that she had drawn up for Caesar, hiding his bald crown under the emperor's laurel wreath.
As a treatment, Cleopatra advised: "Grind red sulfur with arsenic and mix it with oak resin.
Put the mixture on a cloth and apply it, having previously thoroughly soaped the bald spot."
* Cleopatra collected collections of all kinds of poisonous potions and often went to the dungeon to conduct her experiments on convicted criminals there.
* Of all the stories told about Cleopatra's great scientific curiosity, the most unusual is the story set out in the Talmud (Niddah), which tells about the experiments conducted by the queen with her maids who were sentenced to death.
Experiments were conducted to determine at what point the fetus in the womb takes shape, becomes an embryo, and to establish when a person is really born by entering the soul into it.
* Historian Christopher Schaefer believes that Cleopatra did not die from a snake bite, as was commonly believed, but from a deadly cocktail of opium and the hemlock plant.
After studying ancient medical texts, the scientist reported that death from a cobra bite occurs within a few days, and spots appear on the victim's body.
Cleopatra wanted to remain beautiful even after death, so she used a mixture of opium with poisonous plants, and died within a few hours without experiencing any torment.
However, among all ancient writers, the question of the deadly power of a snake bite and the alleged use of it by Cleopatra was solved by Elian Claudius , an ancient Roman writer and philosopher, who wrote: "it is extremely difficult to detect the manifestations or traces of snake bites, and snake venom is surprisingly fast acting.
When Octavian's courtiers noticed two tiny punctures and the trace of a snake in the sand, they realized that there was no snake without it."
The death of Cleopatra was a kind of ritual action with a deep meaning, a rite subject to a strict canon.
Cleopatra asked Octavian to allow Mark Antony to be buried in Egypt.
She wanted to be buried next to her husband, because she wanted to reproduce the myth of Osiris and Isis.
From the stories of Plutarch, it is known that the tomb of Cleopatra was part of the temple buildings, so that the remains of the queen rested on the territory of the sanctuary of the Goddess Isis, with whom she was identified.
The mausoleum was striking in its height and was built of precious marble.
Plutarch reports that by order of Octavian, the last queen of Egypt was buried next to her defeated Roman husband.
The Roman historian Dion Cassius claims that the body of Cleopatra, like Antony, was embalmed.
Only here is where the grave of Cleopatra and Antony is located, no one knows.
Earthquakes, tsunamis, and armed conflicts have wiped out the ancient quarter where generations of Cleopatra's family lived for 300 years.
Now the greatness and glory of ancient Alexandria rest deep on the seabed.
In April 2009, the Minister of Antiquities of Egypt, Zahi Hawass, reported that a radar survey at the Taposiris Magna temple (modern Abusir) showed three important anomalies, one of which may be the tomb of Cleopatra and Mark Antony.
The Temple of Osiris is located 45 kilometers west of Alexandria and was built during the reign of King Ptolemy II.
This sacred place is one of those where, according to legend, the body of Osiris (or one of its fragments) was buried.
A 120 meter tunnel filled with sand was discovered under the ruins of the temple.
After cleaning it, scientists found a death mask of Anthony, a statue of Cleopatra and 20 coins with her image, minted in Egypt during the reign of the queen.
Cleopatra had planned everything in advance - how she would live, how she would die, and how her sarcophagus would be found.
It remains only to wait for the completion of the excavations.

The secret becomes clear...
sergey - 24 Sep 2013 - 12: 15
In the video, Cleopatra's head clearly resembles the head of Valentina Zhitanskaya, as if it is the same woman... probably Valentina knows more about this, but modestly hides it from us... in any case, the secret becomes clear... now we know who Valentina Zhitanskaya is and why her craving for the secrets of ancient civilizations is so obvious... after all, she was there and knows a lot about it without intermediaries...
Thank you and I admire you, Cleopatra, revealed to us in the new modern image of Valentina Zhitanskaya!

The statue of the children of Cleopatra and Mark Antony has been identified
Skarlet - 26 Apr 2012-20: 26
Almost a century after the discovery of an Egyptian statue depicting two mysterious figures, it was possible to decipher their identity.
Unknown were Alexander Helios and Cleopatra Selene, the children of the legendary Cleopatra, the last queen of Hellenistic Egypt, and the Roman commander Mark Antony.
Discovered in 1918 on the west bank of the Nile, near the Dendera temple complex, the statue was kept in the Cairo Egyptian Museum.
The sandstone sculpture, about 10 meters high, depicts two naked children, a boy and a girl, whose legs are entwined with snakes to the level of their thighs.
Cleopatra had four children.
The first son Caesarion was born from Caesar.
After the assassination of the Roman dictator, Cleopatra had a long term relationship with the commander Mark Antony, from whom the twins Alexander Helios and Cleopatra Selena were born, as well as the youngest son Ptolemy Philadelphus.
The statue was studied by the Italian Egyptologist Giuseppina Capriotti, a specialist of the Italian National Research Council.
It was she who established that the images of Alexander Helios and Cleopatra Selena were carved in stone.
