Gameplay The game involves two teams of five people.
One team plays for the bright side (eng. The Radiant), the other for the dark (Eng. The Dire).
Each player controls one unit, which is called a hero.
The hero can gain experience to increase his level, earn gold, buy and collect items that strengthen him or give additional abilities.
Each player constantly receives a small amount of gold from his base, and also earns small portions of gold for killing enemy creatures and large ones for killing heroes.
The teams are dispersed along the lines where there is a fight with enemy heroes and creeps squads under computer control, which appear at the team bases every half a minute.
The goal of the game is to destroy the main building on the enemy base.
The game developers have made a number of innovations and improvements to the gameplay compared to the original game[7][8]: Reconnection support (if the connection is broken, you can return within 5 minutes, if this is not done — the player receives a low priority for searching for the game).
The ability to pause the game by pressing one button.
The game has a division of players by territorial zones (at the moment there are fourteen of them: western and eastern Europe, East and west of the United States, South America, Russia, India, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia, Chile, Peru, Dubai and South Africa), but if desired, players can play in any of these zones.
The problem with delays and lags is solved by minimizing the latency between servers and optimizing the network code.
A colorful, clean and clear visual representation of the actions.
Computer bots with a customizable behavior model in the form of difficulty are available, which can play together and / or against players; An advanced replay system, there are both the usual features, in the form of rewinding and cameras from different characters, as well as the ability to bookmark, view graphs, collective viewing and much more.
Also, the replays will be stored in the Steam Cloud, which will allow players not to worry about losing replays and transferring them between different computers.
The ability to join any unclosed game as a spectator.
The ability to quickly and easily configure hotkeys.
The presence of training tasks that explain the basics of the game to beginners.
The ability to view information about the damage done to the killed player.

The Dota 2 game, like its predecessor DotA, is an esports discipline, and even before the official release, many tournaments were held on it, the largest of which are the tournaments of the International series, organized by the developers themselves the Valve company.
In 2015, a series of The Major tournaments organized by Valve started.
The first of them was held in November 2015 in Frankfurt.
The International
The International Tournament at GamesCom 2011
As part of GamesCom 2011, which was held in Cologne from August 17 to 21, 2011, Valve held a five day Dota 2 tournament called The International, at which the game was publicly presented for the first time[50].
The prize fund was $ 1.6 million[51].
The 16 strongest teams from Europe and Asia were invited.
The champion of The International 2011 was the team Natus Vincere.
The International 2012 was held in Seattle from August 26 to September 2, 2012.
The prize fund of the tournament was $ 1.6 million[52].
The champion of The International 2012 was the Chinese team Invictus Gaming.
The International 2013 was held from 3 to 12 August 2013.
The prize fund of the tournament was $ 2,874,407.
At that time, it was the largest prize pool in the history of esports[53] [54].
The Swedish team Alliance became the champion of The International 2013.
The International 2014 was held from 8 to 21 July 2014.
Thanks to the efforts of the community, the prize fund amounted to more than $ 10.9 million, thereby exceeding last year's record several times.
The main part of the tournament was held at the 17 thousandth Key Arena stadium in Seattle[55].
The champion of The International 2014 was the Newbee team from China[56].
Russian Russian dubbing On February 12, 2014[57] it became known about the beginning of recording Russian voice acting for Dota 2 by Strategic Music, but without an agreement with Valve[58][59].
The developer company announced two days later in the Steam Russian community on the VKontakte social network that this voice over is unofficial[60][61].
Professional actors take part in the voice acting[62].
The company does not invite professional translators to the project; Dmitry Kuzmenko, the project director, does all the translation[62].
Nevertheless, the company actively interacts with the community of players and often conducts voting, for example, about the stress in the word "creeps" [62].
On October 16, Valve released an update with the addition of a Russian voice over of a standard commentator and some heroes.
The list includes such heroes as: Dragon Knight, Invoker, Legion Commander, Orge Magi, Pudge, Queen of Pain, Shadow Fiend, Shadow Shaman and Sniper.
Over time, Valve will release updates of the Russian voice acting for other heroes as well.
