The main idea of the game is to collect the characters of the Blizzard universes in one game.
Is a free to play game with microtransactions.
Blizzard does not identify their game as "MOBA" or "Action RTS", as they consider it a different genre, referred to as"Hero Brawler" [2].

Gameplay The game involves two teams of 5 players, whose goal is to destroy the "citadel", the main structure of the enemy base.
Each player controls one character, called a hero, with rare exceptions: for example, the Lost Vikings are three independent characters, each of which can be controlled separately, and Chen can temporarily split into three creatures with one of his heroic abilities.
Unlike games of this genre, the player does not have his own experience: all the earned experience goes to the team's account.
When a team accumulates a certain amount of experience points, it gets a new level, which instantly strengthens all the heroes.
At certain levels (1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 20) each player of the team is given 1 talent point, which he can spend on the development of his character.
Also, there is no currency and equipment in the match.
The team bases are absolutely identical and consist of a citadel (the main structure, the destruction of which means defeat), forts (strong defensive structures that can significantly delay the onslaught of the enemy), fountains (objects that use the player to restore a certain amount of health and mana), walls, gates and towers.
Forts and towers have limited ammunition, which is slowly restored over time.
Some heroes have the opportunity to summon a MULE worker from the game StarCraft II, repairing nearby buildings.
Destroyed buildings cannot be restored.
On some maps there are watchtowers observation positions, the capture of which provides a continuous overview of the surrounding areas.
In order for the watchtower to be considered captured by one of the teams, it is necessary that the heroes of this team are in the area around the tower for a few seconds and there are no enemy heroes.
The tower can be intercepted at any time.
In addition, each map has a unique gameplay feature.
Periodically, events begin on the map — tasks for players, as they are completed, the teams will receive any advantages — for example, the partial destruction of an enemy base or a strong unit fighting on the team's side.
Players are assisted by warriors computer controlled squads of units that periodically appear on both teams at the same time and go to fight each other along special routes called lines.
The strength and equipment of the watchtower on the squad map depends on the current level of the team, as well as on the number of destroyed "Chernoserda Bay".
When the enemy has forts (in case of destruction of all enemy forts on the line, the indicator from above will be completely attached to the units on this line by a catapult a long range siege weapon).
Some heroes (mostly specialists) they also have the ability to summon units with their abilities.
In addition, there are mercenary camps on all maps that can be captured by defeating their inhabitants, as a result of which the camp will be unavailable for re capture for a while, and the defeated camp inhabitants will stand on the side of the team that captured it.
Some heroes have the ability to bribe mercenaries by persuading them to their side without using force (does not work on bosses).
There are three types of mercenary camps: A fighting camp consisting of three strong warriors and one magician.
A siege camp consisting of two creatures that are extremely ineffective in close combat, but are able to destroy enemy towers and fortifications from a safe distance.
The boss is a single creature with great strength and is able to single handedly kill several players in close combat.
On some maps, there are unique mercenaries with characteristics that do not lend themselves to this classification.
Heroes usually have significantly more health points than ordinary warriors (although there are exceptions), in addition, the hero's health increases significantly as the team level increases.
In case of loss of all health points, the hero dies.
Dead heroes are revived after the expiration of time, depending on the current level of the team and the characteristics of the hero (for example, Diablo is revived 5 seconds after death if he killed a sufficient number of opponents during his life; Murchal is revived in 5 seconds if the egg he laid is not destroyed).
Most heroes also have mana, which they can spend on abilities and skills.
Mana and health are slowly restored over time, and can also be restored by support heroes or by using a fountain.
In addition, each team on the base has an area located behind the citadel, where the health and mana of the heroes are quickly restored, and the heroes themselves become invulnerable.
Any hero outside the battle can quickly transfer to this area from anywhere on the map, using the ability to "move to the base".
It is impossible to get into a similar area of the enemy.
Each character has 3 main abilities and one skill.
When a team reaches level 10, all players of this team are offered a choice between two heroic abilities (razg. ulta from the English ultimate).
Also, some of the talents taken by the player may not strengthen his hero, but give the opportunity to perform some new action.
Abilities and skills are divided into passive and active.
Passive abilities are always active and do not require any control (this can be a constant increase in damage to mercenaries, for example), active abilities act instantly or for a short period of time and are triggered by pressing the keys.
Skills are usually passive (although there are exceptions, for example, Arthas and Chen), and heroic abilities are active (again, there are exceptions, for example, the first heroic ability of Gazlowe).
Sarah Kerrigan, with the help of summoned zerglings, captures a siege camp on the map "Cursed Hollow".
The left mercenary is defeated and is ready to join the team that captured the camp.
You can use the ability only if the hero has enough mana for it (this rule does not apply to heroes who do not have mana, such as Illidan).
After applying the ability, the current mana level decreases, and the ability itself "goes into rollback" - becomes inactive for a few seconds (although there are abilities that can be used several times: for example, Gazlow can put several turrets in a row).
Talents do not require mana, but they go into a rollback after application.
Heroic abilities, as a rule, require an order of magnitude more mana and roll back a significant period, up to 100 seconds (while ordinary abilities rarely roll back longer than 10), but their use can give a significant advantage.
Most heroes can use a mount to move quickly outside of combat.
related tasks: Win 3 games (600 gold).
Play 8 games (800 gold).
Play 2 games for a character of a certain universe (200 gold).
Play 3 games for a character of a certain role (300 gold).
For completing tasks, the amount of gold indicated in parentheses is credited, after which the task is considered completed and disappears.
The player receives a new task regardless of whether he entered the game on that day or not, but only if the number of active tasks is less than three.
In addition, there are other tasks in the game, for which a reward is also assigned.
(As part of the "Eternal Battle" event, there were 2 of them kill a randomly appearing greedy goblin at your base before the start of the battle (reward 100 gold) and kill 50 greedy goblins (reward a special portrait))
Heroes Before the game, the player must choose a hero a character that he will control in the game.
According to the rules, two identical characters should not be present in the same game, but in non rated games, exceptions are possible if the same characters are in different teams.
In" my game", this rule is removed altogether.
Each character has a unique appearance and voice acting, as well as has unique abilities and has its own branch of development (a list of talents offered at new levels).
Also available for purchase in the store are additional looks (skins) that change the appearance, and sometimes the voice acting of the character.
Most of the skins are sold for real money, but one of the skins (the so called master skin) can be bought for in game currency when the hero reaches the tenth level.
Minor changes in appearance (usually just a color change) become available for free at the 7th and 8th level of the hero, respectively.
In addition, for heroes who move on a sled animal, you can change the appearance of the sled animal.
Additional mounts are sold in the store for both real money and in game currency.
After buying a riding animal, it can be used for any hero.
New players will be offered 6 heroes, and 4 more can be unlocked after reaching the 5th, 7th, 12th and 15th levels, respectively.
The list of heroes that are freely available changes every week, on the night from Monday to Tuesday.
The new list is published on the official forum in advance, on Monday evening.
It is also possible to buy any hero for permanent access for in game currency or real money.
The cost of heroes in the in game currency varies from 2000 to 15,000 gold per hero.
In addition, Jim Raynor is always available for the game in the "training" mode.
Heroes can be classified according to the universe to which they belong (they are distinguished by 4: Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo and the collective "retro", which includes characters from old Blizzard games), the method of attack (melee or ranged combat), the complexity of controlling them (from easy to the most difficult) or its role.
The role can be of four types: A fighter (razg. tank) — a tenacious hero, as a rule a melee, whose task is to take the blows of the enemy team on himself.
The killer (razg. kerry) is a hero with huge damage, whose task is to kill or finish off enemy heroes.
Support (razg. support) - a hero, as a rule, is not able to effectively fight alone.
Instead, support heroes can help their team in battle — for example, most support heroes have the ability to restore health to allies.
Many can also stun an enemy hero, briefly depriving him of the ability to move and fight.
Specialist heroes with more non standard mechanics.
Most specialists have the ability to quickly accumulate experience, summon creatures on the battlefield, effectively destroy enemy fortifications or set any traps for enemy heroes.
Leveling up heroes Every time a player gets experience, the hero for whom the game was played also gets experience.
Each character has its own experience scale and its own level.
When any character reaches a certain level, the player also receives a reward.
The maximum level of the hero is 20.

Unconfirmed heroes Blizzard has not officially announced the addition of these characters to the game, but there are signs by which it is possible to indirectly judge the possible addition of a particular hero: for example, there are sound files containing replicas related to these characters.[9]

Cards The match takes place on one of the nine cards.
The card is selected randomly before the start of the match.
In the "own game" mode, the player has the opportunity to choose a card independently.
In addition to the location of bases, lines, mercenary camps and other objects, the maps differ in style (both the environment and buildings and units), the voice and phrases of the commentator, as well as the abilities of the bosses (if they are present).
In addition, each map has its own gameplay feature, so the style of play on different maps can vary significantly.
Garden of Horrors [10] Map features: The map has three lines — the upper, central and lower.
Between them there are gardens with a large number of thickets that limit the view.
At the base of both teams there is a sprout of Horror Gardens.
There are six mercenary camps on the map: four siege camps and two combat camps.
A special feature of the map is the change of day and night.
At night, the mercenary camps become inaccessible for capture.
Instead, other creatures appear — garden monsters, when they are killed, seeds fall out.
The team that has collected 100 seeds receives the Horror of the Gardens at the site of the sprout a creature aimed at destroying the enemy's fortifications.
The horror can be taken under control by any member of the team that caused it within a minute, otherwise it disappears.
Cursed Hollow [11] Map features: The map has three lines — the upper, central and lower.
There are a lot of thickets between the lines, which impair the view.
The map contains two watchtowers.
There are six mercenary camps on the map: two siege camps, two fighting camps and two boss camps.
The special feature of the map is the gifts that appear in one of six special places on the map, selected randomly.
Any player can present a gift to the Raven Lord by maintaining a special spell near him for a few seconds.
If the player supporting the spell moves, attacks, uses an ability, or
will take damage, the spell will be lost.
The team that has collected three offerings to the Raven Lord will earn his favor, after which he will put a curse on the opponents.
The health of the soldiers of the cursed team drops to 1 unit, and the cursed towers and forts lose the ability to attack.
The curse works for a little more than a minute, after which it dissipates.
Ghost Mines [12] Map features: The map has two lines — the upper and lower, with a large number of thickets between them.
The map size is relatively small.
On both bases, there is a pile of bones near the place where the characters appear.
There are two watchtowers on the map.
There are three mercenary camps on the map: two siege camps and one combat camp.
After some time, players are invited to a dungeon (a separate part of the map, the entrances to which are located in the middle of the upper and lower lines), filled with small creatures and one large golem.
When they are killed, skulls fall out, which players can collect for their team.
As soon as all the skulls are collected (100 in total), golems appear in place of the pile of bones of both teams, the strength of which directly depends on the number of skulls collected.
Golems go along one of the lines, attacking all the towers and forts on their way.
After killing the golem, a new pile of bones appears at the place of his death.
After a while, players will be invited back to the dungeon, and new golems will appear in place of a new pile of bones — that is, at the place of the death of the old golem.
Dragon's Edge [13] Map features: The map has three lines — the upper, lower and central.
There is a lot of vegetation between the lines, limiting the view.
In the center of the map there is a statue of the dragon knight, above and below there are obelisks of the moon and the sun.
There are five mercenary camps on the map: three combat camps and two siege camps.
After a while, players will be offered to take positions at the obelisks of the moon and the sun.
The team that holds both obelisks under its control gets the opportunity to use the statue of the dragon knight.
If successful, the statue comes to life, and the player who freed the knight gets control of it and can attack opponents with it.
Chernoserda Bay[14] The style of the map and the commentator's speech correspond to the pirate theme.
Map features: The map has three lines — upper, lower and central.
The central line flows around the bay, where a ghost ship arrives some time after the start of the game.
Captain Chernoserd is standing by the bay with a chest.
There is almost no vegetation.
There is one watchtower on the map.
There are six mercenary camps on the map: three fighting, two siege and a boss.
When capturing a camp, two coins fall out, which any player can collect.
There are also four pirate camps on the map.
Pirates can be attacked and destroyed, getting two coins for this, but defeated pirates will not fight for the team.
After a while, the pirates will appear in the camp again.
From time to time, chests with coins appear near the middle and lower lines, which can also be attacked.
Five coins fall out of the chest: the first after breaking it by a third, the second — by two thirds, and the remaining three when the chest is completely destroyed.
Players have the opportunity to hand over coins to Chernoserd.
When the team deals 10 coins, the Blackbird disappears for a while and starts firing at enemy buildings from the ship.
A total of 12 volleys are carried out.
After a while, the Blackbird appears again, and the price of firing for the team that used it increases by two coins.
In the event of a player's death, all his coins fall out and become available for collection by both teams.
Heavenly Temple [15] The map is made in the ancient Egyptian style.
Map features: The map has three lines — upper, lower and central.
There is a temple near each line.
There is a watchtower on the map, located between the upper and central lines.
After certain intervals of time, temples are activated on the map, becoming available for capture.
Being under the control of the team, the temple begins to fire at the defensive structures of its opponents (except for the walls), but the players holding the temple are attacked by neutral troops the guards of the temple.
From one to all three temples can be activated at the same time.
There are five mercenary camps on the map: two siege camps, two fighting camps and one boss camp.
Tomb of the Spider Queen[16]
Tomb of the Spider Queen [16] The map was added to the game on March 27, 2015.[17]
Map features: The map has three lines — the upper, lower and central.
The map size is relatively small.
Between the lines are altars.
The passages between the lines are fenced with smoke screens that restrict the view.
There are four mercenary camps on the map: a siege camp, two fighting camps and a boss camp.
In the units of warriors there are metal spiders (there are three of them in one unit) - ranged warriors, after whose death a crystal of the color of the opposite team falls out.
The crystal can be selected by any team member of the desired color.
The crystals that are not picked up quickly disappear.
After some time after the start, it becomes possible to hand over the crystals to the altars.
The team that collects 50 crystals gets three weavers (one per line) - huge spider like creatures that can summon creatures to their side and deprive towers and forts of the ability to attack.
The weavers are controlled by a computer.
As long as the weavers are alive, the camps become inaccessible for capture (except for the camps for which there were battles at the time of the appearance of the weavers), and the opportunity to hand over crystals disappears.
Soon after the death of all the weavers, the altars become available again for the delivery of crystals, and the price for summoning weavers for the team on whose side they just fought increases by 5.
In the event of the hero's death, all the crystals collected, but not passed by him, fall out, and can be collected by members of his team.
Eternal Battle [18] The map was added to the game on July 1, 2015.[5]
Map features: The map has two lines — the upper and lower.
There are 4 mercenary camps on the map: 2 spearman camps and 2 fallen shaman camps.
The spearmen's camp contains three ranged warriors who are effective against buildings, and the fallen's camp contains a shaman and two of his hounds.
Some time after the start of the game, two immortals appear in the center of the map, who begin to fight with each other.
Each immortal fights for one of the teams.
When one of the immortals dies, the other completely restores health and attacks the opponent's base along the most fortified line.
The development of a Map for the game StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty "Blizzard DOTA" was announced along with other mods at BlizzCon in 2010[19].
The map was shown only for familiarization with the map editor of the game StarCraft II[20].
In 2011, at BlizzCon 2011, it was announced that the project would be completely restarted[21][22].
In comparison with the one shown at BlizzCon 2010, the gameplay of the game received positive reviews, the ease of mastering and the work done on the game were appreciated[23][24].
On the eve of Dota 2, Rob Pardo, one of the presidents of Blizzard Entertainment, sued Valve over the brand of the game that migrated from the map for Warcraft III.
On May 11, 2012, Blizzard and Valve announced that the dispute was over, Valve kept the "Dota" brand, and Blizzard changed the name of Blizzard DOTA to Blizzard All Stars[25].
In June 2012, Dustin Browder, director of StarCraft II, announced that Blizzard All Stars has no release date ah, but perhaps it will be after the release of StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm[26].
In an interview in January 2013, he noticed that the project did not have a release date, because they did not finish it and kept it in the alpha test.
Dustin announced in August 2013 that several developers have been moved from the StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm team to the Blizzard All Stars team, as well as some designers[27].
In August 2013, at Gamescom, the game entered the testing stage.
Blizzard president Mike Morheim said that the game has achieved significant results and is moving into more advanced testing.
Describing the game as ActionRTS, he said that they did not want to repeat the genre and were looking for something of their own.
The team that remained from the dissolution of the Project Titan project worked on the game[28].
On October 17, 2013, the name of the game changed to Heroes of the Storm[29].
On November 8, game director Dustin Browder spoke about some of the game modes at BlizzCon 2013.
He also noted that access to register for closed beta testing is available on the official website[30].
On March 13, 2014, the game entered the alpha testing stage[31].
A limited number of players from the United States, representatives of the press[32], as well as friends and family members of Blizzard employees received access to it.
Starting from the beta test until April 7, 2015[33] there was an opportunity to buy the so called "Pioneer Kit"[34], which included: 3 heroes (Jim Raynor, Diablo and Tyrande).
3 additional skins for the heroes described above.
An exclusive riding animal.
Access to the beta test of the game.

Game ratings The game received very high critical acclaim.
GameRankings, after analyzing 19 reviews, derived an average rating of 85.87 %.
44] Metacritic, based on 36 reviews, gave an average score of 86/100.[45]
Most critics agree that, despite the external casuality and rejection of many well known aspects of MOBA games, the game is more complex and deeper than it seems, and it is fundamentally wrong to call it "just a casual game".[36][43]
Moreover, some critics believe that Heroes of the Storm is a classic MOBA game, from which all the boring moments are removed, and only the best is left.[37]
Some, on the contrary, believe that Heroes of the Storm is a simple and unpretentious MOBA game that is perfect for those who found classic MOBA games too complicated.
However, even these publications gave the game a positive assessment.[42]
In addition, almost all critics note the low entry threshold, a good, though not perfect, balance, decent level design and a lot of work done on the game.
36] [43][38] Some critics pay attention to balanced dynamics and interesting experiments with mechanics.[43][38] [hide]

IGN gave the game a 6.5 out of 10, writing: "Heroes of the storm is the wrong MOBA with frightening team battles and meager goals."[39]
Interesting facts The game has many references to the Blizzard universes in the dialogues between the heroes, which take place either before the start of the battle, or when killing an enemy hero.
In addition, as in most Blizzard RTS, each hero has a set of secret phrases that he utters when repeated clicks on it.
For example, in her secret phrases, Nova says: "No, I'm not Kerrigan!
And if a game about me came out, you would know about it, " which is a reference to the canceled game Starcraft: Ghost.
Despite the fact that Tychus Findlay in the Starcraft universe was often depicted smoking a cigar, which became part of his image, in Heroes of the Storm he is presented without it.
Blizzard employees had to do this in order to preserve the planned rating of " 13+".[46]
In the video of Murchal on the official website of the game, in the "Heroes" section, the song "I am Murloc" (I am Murloc) by the band E. T. C. sounds like a background melody.
