The genius was born in Italy (1475-1488)
Childhood
On Monday, March 6, 1475, in Italy, in the small town of Carpese in the Casentino district, the second son (out of six) was born to Podesta (the mayor) Chiusi and Carpese.
Now this mountain town is called Caprese Michelangelo.
Podesta's father's name was di Lodovico di Lionardo di Buonarroti Simoni, he was a scion of an ancient Florentine noble family.
On the eighth day of the same month, the rite of baptism was performed, the child was named Michelangelo or – according to the Florentine spelling Michelagnolo.
His father called him Michelangelo for a long time without thinking, but by suggestion from above, he wanted to show by this that this being was heavenly and divine to a greater extent than it happens with mortals, as it was confirmed later.
His childhood was spent partly in Florence, partly in the countryside, in the ancestral estate.
Due to frequent pregnancies, little Mika's mother was given to a wet nurse, and he spent the first years of his life in the family of a stonemason.
Three miles from Florence lies the village of Settignano in the mountains.
Here was a small estate of the house of Buonarroti and the father handed the child over to the nurse, the wife of a stonemason, when he himself returned to Florence with his family at the end of the term of office of Podesta Chiusi and Carpese.
Remembering the nurse, he said to his countryman Vasari:"All the good things in my talent were obtained by me from the mild climate of our native Arezzo, and from the milk of my nurse I extracted the chisel and hammer with which I create my statues."
Settignano was rich in quarries, and the local inhabitants were famous for their art in finishing stone.
The screeching of the saw, the noise and the ringing of the hammer replaced Michelangelo's lullabies.
His hands grew strong early, playing with stones and trying the hammer, when he began to grow up in Settignano.
It's not for nothing that you sucked with the milk of the nurse
Chisel and hammer; from the father,
From the honors promised to you, you fled,
Manimy by the ghost of the magic chisel.
Michelangelo had four brothers — the eldest and three younger.
The boy's mother died when he was six years old.
After the end of his service in Caprese, his father and his family returned to Florence.
