Malevich's transition to the avant garde
The French Impressionists did not serve as a model for Malevich for long.
The painting "Sisters" became his last impressionistic canvas.
Kazimir Severinovich turns to Cubism.
In the 1910s, the artist found himself in a highly competitive creative environment.
Mikhail Larionov invited Kazimir Severinovich to participate in the first exhibition of the art group "Jack of Diamonds".
After that, Malevich was a member of various creative associations, in particular the "Donkey's Tail", at the exhibition of which he presented more than two dozen of his canvases.
Most of his works have survived to the present day and are exhibited in museums in New York and Amsterdam ("Provinces", "Bather", "Gardener", "Polishers").
Using colorful expressive tones, the artist worked in folklore themes, revealed the life of ordinary people.
Gradually, his painting became more and more monumental.
In the work of Malevich of this period, the influence of the French Fauvists is felt.
It took only a couple of years, and the paintings of Kazimir Severinovich sounded in a new way.
The three dimensional plastic of sculptures disappeared in them and rigid colored geometry appeared.
He discovered alogism.
After a quarrel with Larionov, Kazimir took a leading role in the association of futurist artists in St. Petersburg, known as the"Union of Youth".
In 1912-1913, Malevich painted paintings in the cubo futurist style, combining the main elements of Cubism and Italian futurism.
Dynamic geometric figures appear in the space of his canvases during this period.
In early December 1913, Malevich, together with his fellow futurists Mikhail Matyushin and Alexey Kruchenykh, staged the play "Victory over the Sun" at the Luna Park Theater in St. Petersburg It was at this time, when developing the scenery, Malevich first used the image of the famous "Black Square".
The artist has already "felt the pulse" of a new direction — Suprematism.
