Robert Todd Lincoln (August 1, 1843, Springfield, Illinois July 26, 1926, Manchester, Vermont) was an American lawyer and Secretary of War.
The eldest son of President Abraham Lincoln.
Of all his four brothers, he is the only one who survived adolescence.
He was saved from death from a railroad accident by Edwin Booth, the brother of his father's killer, shortly before his murder.

In 1877, Lincoln declined an offer from President Rutherford Hayes to become Assistant Secretary of State, and in 1881 accepted an offer from James Garfield to become Secretary of War, and held this position until 1885.
During his tenure, riots broke out in Cincinnati in 1884.
During the three days of unrest, 45 people died before the American troops sent by Lincoln restored calm[1].

He died at his home in Vermont while sleeping on July 26, 1926.
He did not live less than a week to the age of 83.
The cause of death was called a brain hemorrhage caused by atherosclerosis.
