Creation history[edit / edit wiki text]
The first film was released on May 25, 1977 under the title "Star Wars".
The film was a huge box office success, which actually saved the company 20th Century Fox from the bankruptcy that threatened it at that time.
When doubts about the payback of the project disappeared, the first film was subtitled "A New Hope", and soon after it there were two sequels — in 1980 and 1983.
In 1997, 20 years after the release of the first film, the original trilogy was reworked with the addition of computer special effects and released for re distribution.
In the re release, the films collected 256.5 million, 124.2 million and 88.7 million dollars, respectively[3].
In 1999, the film "Star Wars.
Episode I: The Hidden Menace", which marked the beginning of a new trilogy — the backstory of the original.
In recognition of George Lucas, the idea of the film was inspired by the studies of Joseph Campbell's comparative mythology ("the Hero with a thousand faces", etc.).
Also seen Parallels with space operas like the TV series "Flash Gordon", the samurai films of Akira Kurosawa (for the most part "the Three villains of the hidden fortress"[4])[5].
The beginning of the history of "Star Wars" is considered to be 1976.
It was then that the novelization of the same name by A. D. Foster and George Lucas appeared, telling about the events of "Episode IV: A New Hope".
The producers of 20th Century Fox, fearing the failure of the film at the box office, decided to release the book earlier to assess its success.
In 1977, at the congress of the World Science Fiction Community, George Lucas received a special Hugo Award[6] for this novel.
At the end of 2012, the seventh film was announced, which is a continuation of episode 6, which was released on December 14, 2015 in the world and on December 17 in Russia[7].
In March 2015, the eighth film was announced and the premiere date: May 26, 2017[8].
Project hierarchy[edit / edit wiki text]
The project combines an epic of 7 full length films, several TV movies and animated series, novels (including audio novels), novels and short stories, comics and magazines, encyclopedias and art albums, literature on role playing games, toys, computer games and the like.
The project hierarchy can be represented as follows:
"Star Wars" (brand) is a collection of all fictional and documentary materials released under the official license of "Lucasfilm".
The Star Wars Universe (SWU) is a collection of all fictional materials on the subject of "Star Wars", released under an official license.
The epic "Star Wars" — seven films of episodes (1977-2015).
Unofficially, there are two trilogies: the " Classic trilogy "(IV—VI episodes) and the" Prequel Trilogy " (I—III episodes).
In 2015, the first film of the third trilogy was released.
The expanded universe of "Star Wars" (English:Star Wars Expanded Universe, SW: EU), abbreviated RV — the universe of "Star Wars", with the exception of the epic; complements and expands the universe for a time period of more than twenty thousand years.

The Walt Disney Company, which bought Lucasfilm on October 30, announced that it plans to release a new episode of Star Wars in 2015[12][13].
George Lucas said about this[14][15]:
It's time to hand over "Star Wars" to a new generation of filmmakers.
I always believed that "Star Wars" could outlive me, and I decided that it was very important to pass them on to others during my life.
The original text (English)
It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of film makers.
I've always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime.
Moreover, the new owners of the Star Wars brand are ready to create a whole trilogy, as well as a television series, the action of which will unfold in the time interval between the plots of episodes III and IV[16].
Earlier, Disney representatives reported that starting from 2015, new "Star Wars" will be released on the big screen every summer[17].
The first commercial for episode VII was released on November 28, 2014, announcing December 2015 as the release date of the film[18].
In 2018, an unnamed project about Han Solo will be released, the film will tell about one of the main characters of the original trilogy.

Plot[edit / edit wiki text]
Before the filming of the I—III episodes of "Star Wars", the main character of the story was Luke Skywalker.
At the center of the Star Wars saga is the tragedy of Luke's father, Anakin Skywalker, the main character of the entire epic.
Anakin first appears at the age of 9.
He lives on the planet Tatooine with his mother Shmi; they are both slaves.
By the Will of the Force, Qui Gon Jinn and Obi Wan Kenobi arrive on Tatooine (during his arrival on Tatooine, he is still a student - "padawan") - adepts of the Jedi knight order accompanying Queen Padme Amidala, who escaped from the planet Naboo occupied by the Trade Federation troops.
Qui Gon senses the Power in Anakin, which immediately leads him to the idea that Anakin is "the one who will restore the balance of power", the child mentioned in the prophecy of the Jedi Order.
Qui Gon frees Anakin from slavery and takes him to Coruscant (the capital planet of the Galactic Republic), where he tries to convince the Jedi Council to take the boy for training.
However, the Council refuses to do this.
Then Qui Gon offers Obi Wan to watch him, hoping that one day the boy will be taken for training.
Not having received the proper support of the Galactic Senate, the heroes, together with Queen Amidala, go to her occupied planet Naboo to lift the blockade.
During the storming of the palace, the Jedi come face to face with the Dark Lord's disciple Darth Maul.
In a deadly lightsaber duel, Qui Gon Jinn is killed.
Obi Wan also manages to defeat an adept of the Dark Side of the Force.
Before Qui Gon dies, he begs Obi Wan to take Anakin Skywalker as an apprentice.
Obi Wan wants to become Anakin's teacher.
10 years later, Anakin meets Padme Amidala again — a young senator of the planet Naboo, whom he met back on Tatooine when the Jedi visited the planet.
There is a feeling between him and Padme, which they carefully try to hide from others.
Anakin's assignment to protect Amidala, on which two attempts were made, only brings the heroes closer.
Meanwhile, Anakin's teacher Obi Wan Kenobi undertakes to investigate the assassination attempts that have occurred.
The events of recent years, starting with the appearance of the Dark Lord's disciple, clearly indicate the resurrection of the Sith Order — adepts of the Dark Side of the Force.
The investigation leads Obi Wan to the planet Kamino, where, allegedly by order of one of the long dead Jedi, there is an accelerated creation of an army of clones for the Galactic Republic.
The donor for the clones was a certain mercenary Jango Fett; the Jedi understands that he was the perpetrator in two attempts on Amidala.
Pursuing this mercenary, Obi Wan finds himself on the planet Geonosis, where he finds himself trapped by separatists who want to secede from the Galactic Republic.
Meanwhile, Anakin Skywalker, accompanied by Padme Amidala, goes to Tatooine to find his mother.
At night, he is tormented by nightmares in which he sees her death.
Arriving on his home planet, Anakin learns that his mother was captured by sand bandits.
Anakin tries to save her, but he fails.
Shmi dies in his arms, and he cruelly avenges her by slaughtering an entire village of aborigines.
Then Anakin receives a signal for help from Obi Wan and goes along with Senator Amidala to the planet, where they are captured by the natives helping the separatists.
Padme Amidala, Anakin Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi are sentenced to death at the Gladiator arena Rene, however, in the midst of the battle, the execution is interrupted by the Jedi Knights who have arrived to help.
The separatists are releasing a huge army of droids against their enemies.
Most of the Jedi are killed, and the rest are surrounded by droids.
Suddenly, ships with clones prepared for battle arrive at the arena.
The clones destroy the entire droid army.
Obi Wan and Anakin try to stop the separatist leader, a former Jedi turned Sith Count Dooku, but they fail.
During the fight with Dooku, Anakin loses his right arm.
After the defeat of the Jedi, Master Yoda comes to the rescue and engages in a battle with a former student, but saving the exhausted Anakin and Obi Wan from Dooku, he misses the Sith.
After the battle, Anakin returns to Naboo with Padme and secretly marries her.
The three year Clone Wars begin.
During their time, Skywalker succeeds in wielding the Force and completes his training with Obi Wan.
Anakin falls under the influence of Chancellor Palpatine.
However, neither he nor the other Jedi yet know that the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious is hiding under the guise of the chancellor.
Through hypocrisy and cunning, Palpatine undermines Anakin's trust in the Jedi and Obi Wan personally, and then inclines him to the dark side of the Force, promising to prevent the death of Padme, which Anakin sees in nightmares.
During a not very successful attempt to arrest Palpatine by the Jedi, Anakin bursts into the chambers.
To save Palpatine and, as he thinks, through this, his wife, Anakin helps kill the last surviving participant in the arrest of the Jedi Mace Windu, who defeated Palpatine.
The Dark Lord of the Sith, thanks to Anakin's help, eventually finishes off Mace Windu.
Anakin becomes a new disciple of Darth Sidious, goes to the Dark Side and swears loyalty to the Dark Lord.
He gets a new name Darth Vader as a sign of belonging to the Sith and the Dark Side.
Anakin and the clone army destroy the Jedi Order on behalf of Palpatine, including the Younglings (the youngest students of the order), which gives the Sith full power over the Republic.
Palpatine establishes a dictatorship in the Republic, proclaims it the Galactic Empire, and himself the Emperor.
Anakin, out of jealousy, inflicts fatal injuries to his pregnant wife in nightmares and enters into a fight with his former teacher Obi Wan, but is defeated.
Anakin's body is mutilated, he is near death.
Palpatine dresses Anakin in black armor that supports life.
Darth Vader becomes the Emperor's right hand man.
Meanwhile, Padme gives birth to two children conceived by Anakin before his transition to the Dark Side: Luke and Leia.
Before his death, Padme tells Obi Wan about his belief that there is still good in Anakin.
Children are hidden on two different planets.
19 years later, an older Luke meets an older Obi Wan.
Luke learns that his father was a Jedi — and, therefore, Luke can also learn the skills of a Jedi, since the ability to use the Force is inherited.
Luke begins training as a Jedi knight, first with Obi Wan, later with Master Yoda, and joins the Alliance for the Restoration of the Republic, fighting against the Empire.
Since the Jedi Order is defeated, Luke is the only young Jedi who opposes Palpatine and Darth Vader.
Feeling threatened, they seek to lure Luke to the Dark Side of the Force.
However, Luke keeps to the Bright side and believes that there is good left in Vader.
Palpatine provokes Luke, and he enters into a fight with his father Vader, whom he eventually manages to defeat by cutting off his hand with a lightsaber (a similar injury was inflicted on him by Count Dooku in Episode II, and Vader himself in Episode V).
Luke refuses to follow Palpatine's call to go to the Dark Side, kill his father and take his place next to the Emperor.
Palpatine realizes that he will not turn Luke to the Dark Side, and begins to torment him using his abilities in the Force.
When he is ready to kill him, Darth Vader throws Palpatine into the mine of the Death Star with the last of his strength, thereby switching back to the Light Side.
Vader feels that he is dying, and asks Luke to take off his mask so that he can look at his son with his own eyes.
Luke removes the mask from Vader, through which he looked at the world for many years.
Dying, Vader admits that there is really good left in him.
During the victory celebration, Luke sees the smiling spirits of Obi Wan, Master Yoda and the young [28] Anakin Skywalker.
30 years pass.
The hatch disappears.
At this time, a war is raging between the state formation of the First Order and the Resistance.
Both the First Order and the Resistance, led by Leia, are scouring the Galaxy in search of Luke.
The best Resistance pilot Poe Dameron is sent to the planet Jakku to find a map with the location of the Hatch.
But led by Captain Phasma and Kylo Ren, the stormtroopers capture Po.
His droid, BB 8, escapes with a map and stumbles upon a flea market settlement, whose residents are looking for and selling technical garbage.
There he meets a young seeker Rey and makes friends with her.
A former stormtrooper of the First Order escapes and frees Po.
He gives the stormtrooper a new name "Finn".
The First Order tracks down Finn and launches an air strike on the settlement, forcing the heroes to steal an old spaceship, not knowing that it is the "Millennium Falcon".
Han and Chewbacca find the ship.
They tell Rey and Finn that Luke disappeared after that.
how his student switched to the Dark Side of the Force and called himself Kylo Ren.
The supreme leader of the first order, Snoke, becomes Kylo Ren's new mentor, and in order to overcome the call of the Light Side, Snoke tells Kylo to kill his father, Han Solo.
The Force calls Rey to Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber.
But the sword causes her terrible visions, and she runs away into the forest.
After a while, Han reunites with Leia after a long separation.
The heroes, along with Finn and Chewbacca, go to the Resistance stronghold, where R2 D2 has been in sleep mode since the disappearance of Luke.
Han calls Ren by his real name "Ben" and asks his son to leave the Dark Side.
Kylo Ren, experiencing an internal struggle, kills Khan, whose body disappears along with the explosion of Starkiller, the base of the First Order.
The Resistance celebrates the victory and mourns the Khan.
Suddenly, R2 D2 wakes up, in which the remaining parts of the map leading to Luke Skywalker were stored.
Rey, Chewbacca and R2 D2 on a Falcon fly to a remote planet that the map points to.
There, Rey finds Luke and returns his lightsaber.

Power[edit / edit wiki text]
Main Article: The Force (Star Wars)
One of the most important elements of the Star Wars universe is the "Force", an omnipresent energy field controlled by living beings who have reached a certain spiritual development (and the level of control over the Force varies depending on innate abilities and training).
The force is described in part IV of the epic by Master Obi Wan Kenobi as "an energy field that creates all living things that surround us, penetrates through us and connects every corner of the galaxy with each other."
A person who is able to feel the Force, subject to training from early childhood, can learn to control it and get the rank of "yunling" (at a young age), and then the rank of a jedi disciple - "padawan", and, finally, the rank of a Jedi knight.
The possession of Power is the control of the surrounding space (energy, matter, thoughts), the influence on this space.
Simplistically, the Force is divided into Light and Dark sides.
The Jedi Order teaches to use only the Light side of the Force, based on self — denial and altruism: fortitude, determination, courage, Strength — as a method of defense, Strength — giving life and creating peace, drawn from balance and tranquility, and the Sith Order — the Dark Side, based on selfishness and thirst for power: fear, hatred, aggression, cunning, Strength — as a method of attack, Strength bringing death, drawn from their passions and fears.
However, there are other schools and orders of adepts of both the Light and Dark Sides in the Expanded Universe.
