Plot[edit / edit wiki text]
Methodius Buslaev learns at the age of twelve and a half that he is the future lord of darkness, who received power at the moment of birth — at the hour of a solar eclipse.
At the invitation of the witch Ulita, Buslaev comes to the Moscow residence of gloom on Bolshaya Dmitrovka, where he is taken into training by the baron of gloom the swordsman Ares.
On the day of his thirteenth birthday, Methodius will have to go through the labyrinth of the temple of the Eternal Lists and get what has been stored there since the birth of the world.
At the same time, Daphne, the guardian of light, who lives in Eden, is sent to the human world to accompany Methodius and study with him with Ares.
This is how the story of Methodius Buslaev begins.
He will have to go through a lot of trials before he finally chooses a side and goes on his own path.

Criticism and reviews[edit / edit wiki text]
Critics noted, as in the case of the Tanya Grotter series, some imitation of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter cycle, although at a much lower level compared to Tanya Grotter.
The great seriousness and pathos of the novel, the presence of "adult" humor[2] and numerous Christian thoughts and allusions were noted.[3]
Some of the reviews were negative the reviewers condemned the book's secondary nature and its commercial orientation.[4]
Meanwhile, these books are very successful among the youth audience.[5]

The world of the series[edit / edit wiki text]
The action takes place in the same world as the action of the books about Tanya Grotter.
This world looks like a real one, but in fact it is full of magic, wizards, magical creatures and a variety of supernatural entities are abundant in it.
And, of course, unlike the semi mysterious and designed for a younger reader "Tanya Grotter", where the focus is mainly on the relationship between wizards, "Methodius Buslaev" highlights a much larger issue of the struggle of light and darkness, demonstrating the interaction of people and immortal spirits (practically angels/demons, called here the guardians of light/darkness), and in parallel with the world of people, showing Eden paradise, then Tartarus hell.
In "Methodius Buslaev" the biblical concept is already clearly repeated and it is explicitly stated that this world, as well as the people and immortal spirits inhabiting it, was once created by the word intelligent immortal Creator, who is the embodiment of love and absolute light.
In the series occasionally references (and often not just a reference) to a known events described in the Bible (creation, falling parts from the immortal spirits of light and the appearance of darkness battle of light and darkness, the deluge, the creation of the tower of Babel, etc.) and just world (often Russian) history (events of the great Patriotic war, the Tatar Mongol yoke, Ice, etc.), mentions of famous historical figures (Napoleon, Attila, mother, etc.).
In this world of science the materialistic concept of the origin of the world and man, in particular evolutionary theory of Darwin invented and introduced to the world of men agents of Tartarus, the spirits of darkness to spread people's disbelief in the existence of a higher power and own immortal soul, and therefore to increase the number of their victims.
The characters of "Tanya Grotter"are sometimes mentioned in the series (The ancient one, academician Sardanapal, Yagge, the Great Zubi, Professor Klopp, The Plague del Cake, Venya Viy), and only Ligul, who was mentioned very rarely in "Tanya" and appeared only in one book, becomes the main antagonist in "Methodius Buslaev".
Also in" MB", places previously described in" TG " are mentioned, such as Bald Mountain (this is the scene of one of the books in the series) and the Tibidox school of magic, as well as some artifacts.
And vice versa Methodius Buslaev is mentioned in "Tanya Grotter", in the books "Tanya Grotter and the shoes of the Centaur" and "Tanya Grotter and the Well of Poseidon".
But in general, " TG " and " MB "do not overlap too much: the action of" Methodius Buslaev " is expected to be larger, the viewing angle of the world is wider, the overall concept is more thoughtful and serious.
The latter, of course, led to the fact that some issues of the world of "Tanya Grotter" in" Methodius Buslaev " have already received more unambiguous coverage (for example, it turned out that pagan gods are essentially spirits of darkness, that there are no inhabited parallel worlds mentioned in "TG" and abstract chaos, etc.), which further divided these series.
All this is a natural consequence of the fact that" Methodius Buslaev " is intended for an older reader: the latest books in the series already belong to the 16+category.
Basic concepts and terminology of the world[edit / edit wiki text]
Eidos is an immortal spiritualizer of matter, an eternal particle of being, a part of the One Who created everything with a Word — the human spirit, the only thing in the world that cannot be destroyed, copied or recreated artificially; all people and only them have it, but under certain conditions it can be taken away.
The first mention of Eidos is found in the book "Tanya Grotter and the Well of Poseidon".
Eidos is not a synonym for the soul, which is present in all people, regardless of their inclination to light/darkness.
It has a huge, incomparable power that attaches a person to eternity (while preserving his personality) and does not leave him in rotting flesh after death, and also protects him from the guardians of darkness: they cannot kill a person with an eidos, they can only frighten or seduce, incline to their side, while a person without an eidos is in their complete power.
The endowment of a person with eidos has become the envy of some of the guardians and one of the reasons for their falling away from the light.
For those who can see, the eidos looks like a bluish glowing grain of sand, a shining spark that flares up and shines brighter if the owner of the eidos moves towards light in his development, or darkens if it is dark.
After the death of the body, depending on the state of the eidos, it is carried away either by the guardian of light or the guardian of darkness, and, accordingly, it goes to Eden or Tartarus, where a person is blissful in eternal light and love or suffers in eternal darkness.
There are cases when a person's soul is already in Eden, and the eidos is on earth (as it was with the wife of Ares, whose eidos on earth was temporarily taken over by darkness and this caused her soul pain), which once again emphasizes the difference between these substances.
As a rare exception to the rule, there are cases when the eidos initially consists of two parts separated by a border − light and dark − this happens in children born from a person and a guardian of darkness (subsequently, during life, one of the parties invariably wins and the person turns either to light or to darkness).
Due to its enormous power, eidos is the most important and most precious trophy and a sign of status for the guardians and other spirits of darkness, who lost their source of power at the moment of falling away from the light and have been parasitizing on the power given to people since then; they try to take possession of it at any cost and collect as large a collection as possible in order to hurt the light and become stronger.
Eidos cannot be taken away by force, but you can force or convince a person to give, sell, exchange it for something; it is enough only for the owner to clearly pronounce a phrase that clearly and unambiguously means that he is giving his eidos, and at the time of uttering he really wanted to give it.
A person who has lost eidos does not die physically, since his soul remains with him, but loses everything, since for him there is no longer an eternity in the afterlife.
In addition to the direct withdrawal of eidos, the servants of darkness practice their so called "rent", when a person who has refused eidos is allowed to keep it for a while, provided that certain services are rendered to darkness; as a result, sooner or later his eidos still goes to darkness.
The Eidos that the darkness has seized illegally − in particular, those given away under threat of the life of a loved one and captured by deception − are always returned to the light in the end, because the darkness will not keep them anyway.
The guardians of light are immortal guardian spirits, called by the Creator to protect human souls from darkness, service super beings created during the creation of the world before the creation of man.
They are devoid of eidos, are endowed with wings, in battle they use magolodia (melodies with magical properties) generated with the help of flutes, less often — magic itself (light spells) or blades (peculiar only to the guard of Eden — golden winged).
They live in Eden, on its lower levels (only the best of the golden winged, according to their personal inner capabilities, are allowed to the third heaven, where the residence of the general guardian Troilus is located), periodically serving on earth.
They are usually very beautiful externally and internally.
They physically differ from people by other abilities of the body (invulnerability, a different threshold of sensitivity, telepathy, invisibility, extremely slow aging, etc.), the presence of wings and the ability to look at the sun without discomfort.
After dematerialization (for example, in a battle with the guardians of darkness), they leave for the upper levels of Eden to be eternally blissful there in absolute light.
They are not afraid of death, because they know the world order and the fact that it does not exist for the light.
The material bodies of all the guardians after their physical disincarnations quickly disintegrate and disappear.
They live for many millennia − even the youngest of the guardians have seen the beginning of human history − but because of the different flow of time in Eden (one year is approximately equal to a thousand earth years, while there is a paradox: days drag on for a long time, but fly by instantly), they age extremely slowly.
To avoid the harmful influence of the human world, which has the strongest attraction, they usually work according to the scheme "a day of duty on earth — a week's vacation in Eden", since, being among people for a long time, the guardian gradually "humanizes", first in the sense of judgments and actions, and then physically, which manifests itself in accelerated maturation (aging) and gradual loss of superhuman abilities.
At the last stage of humanization, the real wings of the guardian become transparent and finally completely disappear — the guardian loses immortality and becomes a mere mortal, lives an ordinary human life and dies, and his posthumous fate remains at the discretion of the light.
But the guardians of light are not very immortal in themselves, because they can be killed by the guardian of darkness.
Wings a medallion is a talisman of the guardians of light, thanks to which they gain access to the forces of light; it is also used to materialize real wings.
There are three types: bronze (for ordinary guardians of light), silver (for guardians from Transparent spheres) and gold (the highest award for courage, which gives the owner the greatest strength; they are worn by the elite of the guardians of light — the guard of Eden).
The wings reflect the essence of the guardian, it is impossible to deceive them, since they understand the guardian before he understands himself.
Deprived of wings, the guardian loses his gift and eternity.
The guardian of light, who puts a string with his wings on the neck of a mortal, will love this person and will love him forever.
The servants of darkness cannot touch the wings directly (the wings themselves then heat up) and collect them as the most important trophies, equal in value to the eidos; it is the same crime for them to return the captured wings to the guardian of light as to leave his eidos to a mortal.
Real wings materialize with the help of a medallion and also reflect the essence of the guardian: if he commits unseemly acts, the feathers on the wings turn black.
With falling away from the light or leaving the guards, the wings first completely turn black, and then completely disappear.
The guardian's flute does not generate magic itself, but serves only as a transmission link, with the help of the guardian's consciousness and his wings (it does not work without wings, since it does not receive access to the forces of light) generating magolodia (melodies with magical properties) for all occasions: attacking, healing, creating, etc.
A guardian of light without a flute is just as impossible as a guardian of darkness without a sword and a darkh.
Magolodia is so strong that it is able to destroy not only the darkh, but also the immortal essence of the lower spirits of darkness, so it is dangerous for dark ones of any status.
For the guardians of darkness, the flute is as much a trophy as the wings, and they canot touch it directly either.
The Guardians of the Transparent Spheres are immortal spirits of the highest level, who take care of the guardians of light.
They live in the upper of the seven heavens of Eden.
Unlike the guardians of Eden, they are completely immaterial and cannot stay on earth in their true bodies, so they use service bodies in such cases (usually recently deceased people returned to life), which, however, happens extremely rarely.
They wear silver wings that differ from the wings of the guardians in both their external shape and capabilities (a higher tolerance to the forces of light).
For supernatural manipulations, they use not flutes, but verbal formulas, spells of light, which are so strong that they can completely destroy the lower spirit of darkness and seriously stun the guardian of darkness of the highest rank.
Sometimes they are able to see the future.
Like guardians, when working for a long time on Earth, they are exposed to the danger of humanization, and to an even greater extent, since the rented human body retains some memory of the past life and bad habits of the former owner and, accordingly, affects the attitude, preferences and reactions of the new owner.
The guardians of darkness are the former guardians of light, who once fell away from him because of their pride and envy towards man, and since then have become opponents of the Creator and settled in Tartarus, which they themselves mastered and adapted "for themselves".
A third of all created guardians with many small service spirits, who later became undead, fell away from the light.
Subsequently, after the fall of Adam and Eve provoked by them, some of the guardians of darkness among the pagans received the title of gods (Ares, Susanoo, Perun).
Outwardly, they are often ugly, since the body reflects a distortion of the inner immortal essence, but they can also be attractive, although not by the beauty of the light guards.
The true essence is always not just ugly, but frightening, and causes sincere horror to those who are able to see it.
In combat, a variety of cold weapons are used — as a rule, magic, - sometimes magic.
They do not fly, since they lost their wings with the fall, but they can teleport.
Since after the fall of the light ceased to give them strength, they hunt for human eidos, spoiling and corrupting people; they collect Eidos in their darh.
They hate light in all its manifestations and do not worry at all about the fact that by taking away eidos, they deprive a person of eternity.
They command the lower spirits of darkness commission agents and succubi, who also collect eidos.
They do not know how to love, they know only the passions and completely obey them; for love, according to the law of darkness, they are cruelly punished by the destruction of the body and exile to eternal darkness.
They are extremely selfish and infinitely far from sympathy, self sacrifice, loyalty, honor and other bright feelings, despise them and laugh at them; they always value only their own benefit, power and strength.
They promote the principle of "do what you want — you are your own judge, king and god" in every possible way, but for any disobedience they are punished very cruelly, especially for any bias towards "light impulses" — in this case they try to destroy not only the person who has been wronged, but also the objects of his affection, and they usually start with them, so that the guilty person is more painful.
Despite their usual bravado and external "wildness", as a rule, they are afraid of death (in the sense that it is typical for guardians), since they know all the "charms" of Lower Tartarus too well, where all the dark ones invariably fall after disincarnation.
Like the bodies of the light ones, their bodies disappear after disincarnation.
Darkh is a lower parasitic creature from the bowels of Lower Tartarus, which arose at the dawn of the development of Tartarus by the guardians of darkness as a result of an unknown mutation.
It looks like a twisted glass icicle and works as a vessel for eidos, releasing their forces to increase the host's strength.
The fallen guardians began to use it when they found out that their powers were rapidly decreasing after falling away from the light.
There should always be at least one eidos in the darkh, since the empty darkh takes the eidos of the one who wears it, in payment for his exit from Tartarus.
The Eidos imprisoned inside the Darkh experience constant torment.
Darkh fascinates a mortal with the overflow of its facets, burns the eyes of the guardians of light, causes pain to anyone who touches him, but causes the greatest pain to his master.
Darkh gives immortality and eternity, but this eternity is close to death, because it enslaves the owner, quickly stops internal growth and destroys all good inclinations.
The desire of the guardians to collect eidos is insatiable regardless of the content of the darkh, eidos for them is an object of obsession and eternal hunting, because only thanks to them they maintain their strength, can compete with each other and fight with the light.
The more eidos there are in the guardian's darkh, the greater his capabilities and, consequently, the higher he stands in the hierarchy of darkness.
The guardian who has lost the gift is deprived of immortality and goes into the darkness to eternal torment.
Darkh should not come into contact with the wings of the guardians of light and in no case should it get to the light — for the guardian of darkness it is a disgrace and a crime, almost the same as leaving eidos to a mortal or returning the wings to the guardian of light.
Commission agents are servants of darkness from the lower spirits, to whom the guardians of darkness gave plasticine bodies.
They can turn into anything − even into a huge creepy monster, even into a small fly.
The meaning of their existence is to extort eidos from people with the help of various tricks − mainly intimidation (at the same time they cannot cause any real physical harm to a person without the permission of the light) or the offer of various benefits − and hand them over to the guardians of darkness.
They exist on earth only as long as they do their job well, in which they are very interested, because otherwise they instantly disincarnate and go to hell without the right to return.
There are a lot of them on earth, but even more remain in Tartarus waiting for their turn.
They are fiercely hostile to each other and, at any opportunity, they substitute not only competitors, but even their direct superiors.
Cunning, enterprising they are constantly trying to hide some of the collected eidos from the guards, although they are beaten and sent to Tartarus for this, − and ubiquitous − they stick their nose everywhere, constantly spy on everyone and sniff out everything.
Succubi are the lower spirits of darkness, responsible for passions, love dreams and all sorts of visions in which magical and psychic energy is pumped.
They seduce people by playing on their feelings, and so they take possession of eidos.
Perfectly understanding the movements of the heart and sensing love, like a cat Valerian, they always take the form of someone whom their victim loves or wants, h in order to bring her to a state in this way, when for the sake of owning the object of her dreams, she will agree to anything, to feed on her energy or just make fun of her.
The property of a succubus is that everyone sees in him who he wants to see: a woman is the man of her dreams, a man is the woman of his life, and an old man is his first love.
The series demonstrates several succubus transformations (if we talk about scenes concerning the main characters), illustrating their knowledge of souls and skillful play on the feelings of the victim — so succubi turn into Methodius, mocking Daphne, as well as for the enamored Praskovya, into Essiorkh — for Julitta, into a daughter and Daphne — for Ares, into a mother and best friend Irka — for Batla.
The material bodies of succubi are sewn from two halves — male and female, both are very beautiful; the immortal essence, like all spirits of darkness, is extremely ugly.
Like commission agents, spying, they can turn into anything — even into dandruff scales on a telephone receiver.
They are smart, deceitful and incredibly sweet, they love to be vulgar, flirt and make eyes.
Eden is the territory of light, the habitat of light guardians, guardians and souls of mortals worthy of light.
It consists of seven levels of heaven; on the lower one is the Garden of Eden itself, where Adam and Eve once lived and the tree of knowledge of good and evil still grows (only now no one encroaches on it).
In the Garden of Eden, there is a part of the guardians of light, as well as some extremely harmless mythological creatures who have found it difficult to live in the world of people and who were allowed there as a big exception.
This is not an analogue of paradise: many people can be in the Garden of Eden, with the exception of only the guardians of darkness, and it is emphasized that there is an even more perfect and real world above Eden.
The abode of the guardians is called the House of the Brightest, it begins with the first sky, the upper floors are not visible to the guardians and are not accessible.
The House of the Brightest is guarded by griffins, who are able to see the essence of everyone entering and recognize the darkness in any form, so only those worthy of light can enter the House.
Griffins were created together with Eden at the dawn of the creation of the world and have tremendous power.
There are three griffins in total — two guarded the entrance to the House of the Serene Ones, and the third was a pet of Ares and left Eden after him (in the 18th book he returns to Eden, having made friends with Cornelius).
However, griffins are not its only security, the House of the Most Serene protects itself: an unworthy entity simply cannot withstand its atmosphere.
The third heaven is inhabited by the golden winged guard of light and is the residence of the general guardian Troilus; only guards who have served the light without blemish for thirty thousand years can get access there, or by special order of Troilus otherwise even the essence of the guardian simply will not withstand the atmosphere of the third heaven.
On the upper of the seven heavens of Eden there are Transparent Spheres where the spirits of light of the highest order live, also the guardians of light themselves get there after physical disincarnation and the souls of righteous people after their death (that is, people and their guardians after the death of the first are in some way separated).
Above the seven heavens is the territory of absolute light, that is, the place of residence of the Creator of all things.
In Eden, there is no place for darkness and dark thoughts; a guardian who has allowed them immediately loses his opportunities (so, even just envying or thinking bad things, you can fall right during the flight), as happened to some of the guards who fell away from the light.
Tartarus is, respectively, the territory of darkness, the habitat of fallen guardians and in general all spirits and creatures of darkness, and the souls of sinful people.
It was discovered and mastered by the first fallen guardians led by Kvodnon, and Kvodnon is inhabited by creepy creatures,
