The game world of S. T. A. L. K. E. R. is a fictional universe, the action of which takes place in an alternate reality of computer games "S. T. A. L. K. E. R. series", where in 2006 a second disaster occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which surpassed the first in scale.
It covers the time period from 1986 to 2012.
In general, it repeats the structure of the real world, the main difference is the changed course of events after the Chernobyl accident and the presence of abnormal formations.
The geography of the world is divided into two parts: the Zone — the territory on the site of the Chernobyl exclusion zone with increased abnormal activity; and the "Big Earth" — the outside world outside the Zone.
The borders of the Zone are surrounded by a guarded perimeter, army checkpoints are installed on the few ways into it.
The admission of civilians without special permits is strictly prohibited.
Persons who violate the ban are detained, and if they offer armed resistance, they are destroyed.
However, this did not prevent the development of the Zone by adventurers, desperate people, deserters, criminal personalities, and so on.
They call themselves stalkers.
Their main activity is the extraction of valuable anomalous formations artifacts for sale to local merchants, after which the "swag" goes beyond the Perimeter.
The activity of stalkers is not limited to this: someone in the Zone fights for an idea, someone kills others for money, someone just survives as best they can.
Some stalkers unite in large groups, while others prefer a single lifestyle.

The history of the game world[edit / edit wiki text]
1986-2010[edit / edit wiki text]
On April 26, 1986, at 1: 24, as a result of planned work, a reactor explosion occurred at the 4th power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which destroyed the building of the power unit, and a large amount of radioactive materials was released into the atmosphere.
Vast territories of the Soviet Union and other countries were infected with radionuclides.
A complete evacuation of the population was carried out within a radius of 30 kilometers from the station and an exclusion zone was formed with a military guarded perimeter.
An artificially grown brain.
Laboratory X 16
The remaining power units of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant continued to work, which opened the possibility of creating a complex of secret laboratories with the index "X" (x).
A group of scientists studied the hypothesis of the noosphere — the information shell of the Earth.
They created the " Kaimanov radiation generator — - a source of psi radiation[1].
A side result of the research was the discovery of the abilities of living beings to generate directed psi radiation[2].
A biological emitter (a giant brain) was created in the laboratory X 16[3].
The biological samples were irradiated with a psi field of different intensity.
In the test shops, new types of weapons were developed, in particular, "product No. 62", functioning on the principle of a Gauss gun.
The main goal of the research was to control the noosphere.
The project "About Consciousness" appeared, its participants joined together in a common network, creating a collective mind.
Generators were erected near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
On April 12, 2006[4][5], at 14:33, the experiment got out of control — there was a breakthrough of the Noosphere into the material world.
A flash of light of extraordinary intensity was observed over the territory of the Zone, "and it was visible how clouds were evaporating in the sky."
Then " a terrible roar came, the earth shook."
"The energy of the noosphere" from that moment significantly changed the physical laws, as well as the flora and fauna of the specified territory.
A day later, the troops completely cordoned off the" Zone " around the perimeter, but there were still many people inside the perimeter.
Rescue operations were canceled due to high abnormal activity.
The size of the Zone was unstable and increased abruptly, absorbing the military perimeter time after time[4].
2007-2008.
The zone continues to grow.
The cause of the crash has not yet been established.
There are more and more victims of the tragedy.
Rare scientific expeditions end in failures.
It becomes known about fantastic anomalous formations and mutated species of living beings with amazing abilities.[4]
2009.
According to various estimates, there are from one to three hundred "unaccounted for persons" calling themselves "stalkers"on the territory of the Zone.
They are searching for so called artifacts — anomalous formations with certain properties that have a high price.
Many stalkers begin to unite in groups, creating the basis for large stalker clans.
2010.
Following the lone stalkers, scientists are accepted for the study of the Zone.
Expeditions are being organized, mobile laboratories are appearing inside the Perimeter.[4]
Despite the military control, stalking is taking on an increasing scale.
The center of the Zone is still an unattainable goal, the path is closed by the "Brain Burner" - an unknown phenomenon, the effect of which is concentrated in the forest area to the north of the "Army warehouses".
Getting into the field of action of the "scorcher", a person loses his mind, turning into a zombie, or dies.
Later it turns out that the "Scorcher" is an experimental model of the "Kaimanov radiator", which the members of the "O consciousness" have converted into a system of protection against penetration into the center of the Zone.[1]
The well known path there is guarded by the military, holding back the waves of mutants.
This last frontier was called the Barrier.
However, every stalker dreams of passing through it without hindrance, there are rumors about untouched territories — a "Klondike" of artifacts, legends appear about a Wish Fulfillment crystal of extraterrestrial origin located at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power plant and allegedly caused the formation of the Zone.
2011[edit / edit wiki text]
The accessible part of the Zone has been explored almost completely.
Stalkerism has reached its peak, stalker groups have finally formed.
The largest of them — "Duty", formed from former military personnel and volunteers," Freedom", consisting of anarchist stalkers — begin a struggle for influence in the Zone.
The military guarding the perimeter, bandits earning money from robberies of stalkers, as well as foreign states represented by mercenaries also show their interests.
At the" Dump " in the piles of radioactive garbage, stalkers began to find a lot of useful equipment, groups of diggers are formed.
Through local merchants, the sale of artifacts and the supply of weapons is carried out.
The war of groups[edit / edit wiki text]
At the end of August[6], a group of stalkers led by a Shooter penetrates to the blocks of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
The reaction to the invasion was a super surge, which served as a" trigger " for the start of a war of groups.
He changed the appearance of the Zone: extensive anomalous fields closed access to some territories, locking people who were there, while others, previously unknown, on the contrary, opened.
One of these places was the abandoned city of Limansk, for which "Duty" and "Freedom"immediately began to fight.
At about the same time, renegade bandits seize the bridge leading to Limansk, blocking the only way.
The city becomes unavailable for a while.
The group "Debt" at its base in the research Institute "Agroprom" was attacked by mutants from the dungeons and stopped paying attention to strengthening the bandits.
In the Dark Valley, the Freedom group also became the target of attacks, its members were hunted by mercenaries.
Taking advantage of the problems of "Debt", the bandits firmly settled in the Landfill — a kind of crossroads of roads, and wanted their share in the digger fishery.
The loners who were forced out of the Dump began to concentrate on the Cordon, where they kept neutrality with the military, until their commander decided to make a deal with the bandits ' ploughmen.
As a result, the loners came into conflict with them, taking the commander prisoner.
To prevent attempts of penetration, the "O Consciousness" recruits the "Monolith" group by zombification, which broke into the center of the Zone shortly before the super release.
[7].
The members of the group stood for the inviolability of the Zone and believed in the divine essence of the Performer of desires — the Monolith, and after zombification they became aggressive towards all other stalkers.
During the super release, the military suffered heavy losses in the warehouses, and after a while, aggressive detachments of the Monolith group began to come from the side of the Scorcher, which further complicated the protection of the Barrier.
The remaining military were forced to retreat to the base, and stalkers took up the protection of the Barrier.
Almost immediately, Svoboda became interested in the army base, which wanted to have a strategically important position close to the center of the Zone, and, despite the problems, sent its detachments there.
Thus, the forces of the group were scattered.
"Clear Sky"[edit / edit wiki text]
Along with the territories to which the passage opened after the super release, the passages to the swamps also opened.
It turned out that all this time they were inhabited by a previously unknown group engaged in the study of the Zone.
Its members wore sky blue camouflage and called themselves "Clear Sky".
The group was headed by scientists: Lebedev N. A., Kalancha E. F., Suslov V. I., who participated in the projects"About Consciousness".
They are trying to find out the reason for the super release and use the saved Scar mercenary in this case.
Lebedev puts forward a version that what happened is the result of the penetration of certain persons to the center of the Zone, and the main goal is to prevent a possible repeat case by any means.
By chance, Fang's PDA becomes aware of the Shooter, and Scar was ordered to eliminate him, the mercenary pursues the stalker, but he manages to escape.
Then Lebedev decides to go to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant with the whole group, bypassing Limansk.
"Clear Sky" fights its way to the station, where the Shooter is already located.
Scar manages to disable his psi protection, but the expected is not achieved.
There is a new powerful release, which put an end to the war of groups.
The "Clear Sky" was almost completely destroyed, the few survivors were subjected to recruitment under the "S. T. A. L. K. E. R." program[8], others scattered around the Zone.
According to the program, agents are "erased" pa they are crushed and subjected to visual zombification, suggesting a specific task, and then sent closer to the border of the Zone in trucks, which stalkers call "Death Trucks"; but since the Zone is very unstable, many agents do not survive during transportation.
The shooter is also subjected to zombification, a tattoo of "S. T. A. L. K. E. R." is made on his arm, and he, along with the rest of the agents, goes to the Perimeter.
Without assuming who he is, he is given the task: "Kill the Shooter".
2012[edit / edit wiki text]
The zone came to relative calm, the war of groups ended, many stalkers died after another cataclysm.
The group "Debt" left its positions in the Agricultural Industry and gained a foothold at the Rostock plant, where General Voronin became the head.
Under the protection of the group, stalkers could calmly relax and buy equipment at the local bar "100 X Ray".
This place has become a major center of stalking.
The former base of the "Debt" in the research Institute was soon occupied by the military who landed in search of important documents.
They have long been preparing for a large scale operation to break through to the center of the Zone and destroy the causes of its occurrence.
Their search brings results: information about secret laboratories appears.
The Svoboda group left the base in the Dark Valley and moved to Army warehouses.
Chekhov, the leader of the anarchists, died while crossing the village of bloodsuckers, and Lukash took his place.
The group easily gained a foothold in a new place and took over the protection of the Barrier.
Her main enemy continued to be "Duty".
Conflicts between these factions periodically resumed, then a shaky truce came.
However, there are people in both groups who do not want to peacefully coexist with yesterday's enemies.
A detachment of fanatically minded Dolgovites led by Colonel Cherepanov, disobeying General Voronin, moved to the Warehouses.
The bandits also have a new leader.
They became a former bartender of the group a hog who sat out Yoga.
Together with his gang, he settled on the former base of "Freedom" in the Dark Valley.
However, the bandits did not have a single organized structure, most of them gathered in small gangs, more like destroyed "Renegades".
Fearing the patrols of "Duty", they remained near the Perimeter, causing a lot of trouble to ordinary stalkers.
Disabling the Burner[edit / edit wiki text]
In the spring[9], during a night thunderstorm, a Death truck crashes on the Cordon, the only survivor is the Shooter.
He is taken to a local merchant Sidorovich, and he helps him recover, and since the Shooter does not remember anything, Sidorovich calls him Marked because of the tattoo on his arm.
For the rescue and further assistance in finding the Shooter, the merchant demands a fee, and after a couple of small tasks, he reveals his plans: he and other merchants dream of opening a path to the artifact deposits in the center of the Zone.
Sidorovich clearly knows about the intentions of the military, his intelligence officers report on the documents to the Research Institute "Agroprom".
The marked one, at the request of the merchant, obtains documents that refer to the laboratory X 18.
The bartender, the owner of the bar "100 X Ray" and a large merchant, assumes that she is in a Dark Valley.
Stalkers have long been talking about some underground structures at an abandoned factory and about the horrors happening there.
The marked one enters the laboratory and learns from the documents that the Incinerator is a device created by people.
From the same documents, it becomes known about the laboratory X 16 in the area of Amber Lake, in which there is an installation that resembles an Incinerator in properties.
The marked one goes to the scientists who are located in a mobile laboratory on the site of a dried up lake.
From them, he learns about the death of the Ghost in the laboratory X 16, and also receives experimental protection from psi radiation.
With its help, he was able to penetrate into X 16 and disable the experimental emitter in it.
Then, after taking the documents obtained in X 16 to the Bartender, he receives a task from him to turn off the Incinerator in the X 10 laboratory.
With the battles, breaking through the ranks of the monoliths guarding him into the bunker under the Scorcher's antennas, the Marked One was able to disable it.
The passage to the center of the Zone was open.
Breakthrough to the center[edit / edit wiki text]
Instantly, a lot of stalkers moved to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, "Duty" and "Freedom" began a new confrontation for new territories.
However, all of them, as they advanced, had to overcome the resistance of the Monolith fighters.
Military special forces landed on the former closed territories.
Very soon the fanatics were pushed back to Pripyat.
Groups of veteran stalkers and military stalkers, independently of each other, begin to storm the city.
The armed forces are launching Operation Monolith, armored vehicles and paratroopers with air support were supposed to gain a foothold at the power plant units.
In addition to the "Monolith" detachments, the military faced extremely powerful anomalies, and during the decisive stage of the operation, an outburst begins, as a result, the operation fails.
At the same time, the Shooter, who had already learned the truth about himself, managed to get under the sarcophagus of the station, where there was an illusory Wish Performer — a Monolith.
The stalker causes a malfunction in the installation, which attracts the attention of the "About Consciousness".
One of its representatives, in the form of a hologram, talks to the Shooter, tells about the reasons for the emergence of the Zone, offers to join them to help contain the flow of energy of the noosphere and take the Zone under control.
The shooter refuses and after a long battle with the monoliths destroys the project "About Consciousness".
With the shutdown of large psi installations, the forces of the Monolith group weakened, its members began to get out of control, to think independently.[10]
However, local antennas remained closer to the station, and the fanatics still held territories.
Pripyat was almost deserted, mutants took the place of people.
The stalker squads that surged to the center were faced with new, more dangerous types of them.
In the face of constant threats and a small number of safe places, the groups have sacrificed their principles and agreed not to conflict in recreation areas.
There were only two suitable places behind the former Scorcher.
The first was organized by stalkers in a dried up riverbed on a dry cargo ship "Skadovsk".
It established a shaky peace between loners and bandits.
The second was the station building at the railway station "Yanov", divided between the groups" Duty "and" Freedom " during the ejection.
In addition, a new mobile laboratory of scientists is located near Yanov.
New territories quickly became the object of study and profit making.
Almost immediately, another stalker legend appears about a certain place where all wounds heal, the "legend of the Oasis".
Many Western states have also become interested in the secrets of the Zone.
An unmanned aerial vehicle, taken by many for a UFO, crashed over its territory.
The mercenaries showed high activity, becoming interested in the work of scientists and secret laboratories in Pripyat.
Operation Fairway[edit / edit wiki text]
After the failure of Operation Monolith, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, together with the SBU, is developing a new plan, called "Fairway".
According to it, helicopters should deliver military troops to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant along a pre laid path, designed to establish control over the central regions of the Zone.
The helicopter detachment "Skat", consisting of 5 vehicles, rises into the air to explore the territories near the center of the Zone and sets a course for the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
However, the operation failed — none of the cars returned to the base.
To search for them and find out the causes of the crash, the Security Service of Ukraine sends its employee, a former stalker, Major Degtyarev, to the Zone.
As it turned out later, when drawing up the operation plan, the fact of the appearance of new air anomalies after the release was not taken into account.
The surviving military personnel are sent to the evacuation point in the east of Pripyat.
Communication was not restored, evacuation was impossible, so they had to organize a camp in a former laundry building.
After a while, Degtyarev finds the military.
He manages to restore communication and contact the command, along the way he finds a lot of documents that shed light on many mysteries of the Zone.
Before the next release, the Shooter comes out to the military.
He tells about the reasons for the helicopter crashes and asks to take him with him, as he wants to help the government in the fight against the Zone.
Since the cause of the helicopter crashes has been clarified, evacuation becomes possible, and immediately after the release, the detachment breaks through the Pripyat with a fight to the landing site.
Arriving helicopters take everyone to the Mainland, where the Shooter becomes the main consultant at the Research Institute of the Chernobyl Anomalous Zone.
The population of the Zone[edit / edit wiki text]
Organizations[edit / edit wiki text]
"O consciousness"[edit / edit wiki text]
A group of scientists who combined the mental potential of each of their representatives with the help of special equipment located in the Chernobyl NPP area.
It is believed that the Zone was created through their fault.
In the" Shadow of Chernobyl", the Shooter has the opportunity to talk with one of the representatives of this group.
This grouping does not appear in the rest of the series.
"We are " O Consciousness", a group of researchers who have set themselves the goal of changing the world.
It is known that the Earth is surrounded by a special information field — the noosphere.
It is closely connected with all intelligent beings on the planet and stores all their mental images.
We decided to connect to the noosphere and make changes in it: removing all the dark things that gave rise to humanity, to make the world perfect.
No human mind has enough power to interact with b is with the noosphere, so we have united our consciousnesses"…
- A representative of the "O consciousness" during a conversation with the Shooter
Armed forces[edit / edit wiki text]
The contingent of Ukrainian troops located in the Zone, as well as guarding its perimeter.
Sometimes they conduct expeditions deep into the Zone.
According to the order to prevent unauthorized persons from entering the Zone, stalkers are treated aggressively as "local fauna".
They are armed with helicopters and armored personnel carriers, but, as a rule, they are used only for special tasks.
The emblem is a symbol of the non departmental security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
They are divided into:
Soldiers of regular army units guard the passages to the Zone, patrol the Perimeter.
They shoot mutants and catch looters.
Elite units: paratroopers or special forces.
They are landed for rescue or special operations.
Military stalkers see below.
Military stalkers[edit / edit wiki text]
Highly qualified army contingent for deep raids into the Zone.
As a rule, soldiers who have undergone special training after serving in the Zone, or stalkers who have signed a contract with the army.
They are equipped with a large number of auxiliary equipment, are well armed and equipped.
They are mainly used to study the causes and consequences of the disaster, as well as to map the Zone.
They can walk both singly and in groups of several people.
Ordinary stalkers are not allowed to approach them — they immediately open fire.
Technically, the "Military Stalkers" group does not exist, all military stalkers in the game are military with the rank of "Master".
Scientists[edit / edit wiki text]
Individual research groups of scientists funded by the state.
They work and live in mobile laboratories.
They are mostly dressed in special scientific suits imported from outside the perimeter.
The emblem is a flask with a red and blue liquid.
Despite their deep knowledge, they are almost helpless in the field, so they are forced to use the services of stalkers and the military.
In the" Shadow of Chernobyl", the name of the group is Environmentalists.
Groupings[edit / edit wiki text]
The stalkers who came to the Zone began to unite in small groups.
Over time, many of them turned into large stalker groups with their own organization and ideology.
Singles (Free stalkers)[edit / edit wiki text]
Stalker in a SEVA jumpsuit
The main part of the population of the Zone.
Stalkers who for one reason or another did not join the groups.
The main occupation is the search and sale of artifacts, as well as any other things of potential value — swag.
Sometimes they are hired for work, for example, to protect scientific laboratories.
They walk alone, or unite in small groups of 2 to 3 (rarely up to 4-5) people.
They cannot be considered a group in the full sense, since they do not have a single leader, but from time to time they can unite in large detachments with veteran commanders.
The emblem is a radiation icon on a brown background.
Depending on the rank, they are armed with all kinds of weapons, both Soviet Russian made and foreign.
In the game "S. T. A. L. K. E. R.: Clear Sky" stalkers are fighting with bandits for a Dump.
In this regard, they have two large bases: at the Cordon and at Agroprom ,as well as a small digger camp at the Landfill.
And in other locations, singles are found only in small groups.
They are actually several groups independent of each other with their own commanders.
Father Valerian leads the stalkers at the Cordon, Wild For example - at the Landfill, Orest — at the Agroprom ,and the detachment of loners guarding the scientists ' bunker is led by a stalker nicknamed Lefty.
In the game "S. T. A. L. K
