I think everyone knows the name of Mark Zuckerberg.
He is a talented programmer, a young billionaire, currently he is 30, and he is the founder of the social network Facebook.
Facebook is the most popular social network at the moment, founded on the fourth of February 2004.
Initially, Facebook was born as a site for communication between students of Harvard University.
But his popularity has gone far beyond the university.
At the time of the birth of Facebook, there were no social networks in the usual sense, so this is also the history of the development of social networks.
The youngest billionaire of our time had a passion for computers back in the 6th grade.
He began his thorny path with the well known programming language "C++" and in his young years developed a computer game "Risk".
Also for his father, Zuckerberg developed a program with the help of which his company's employees could communicate with each other.
Then Mark developed the application "Synapse", which is able to automatically generate playlists with the preferences of the listener's taste.
Bill Gates ' company became interested in this program and offered Mark a good job, but on the condition that the rights to Synapse would go to Microsoft.
Zuckerberg refused.
Facebook was created as the basis for the name "Facebook" refers to the Philips Exeter Academy, where Mark studied.
As a student of this school, Zuckerberg received the so called "The Photo Address Book"at his disposal.
It was a kind of student directory, in which you could get acquainted with photos, phone numbers and even addresses of your classmates.
Among themselves, the students called this book "The Facebook"
And so on February 4, 2004, the social network "The Facebook"was launched in a small dorm room at Harvard University.
The starting team included three more students: Eduardo Saverin (the first financier of Facebook), Dustin Moskowitz and Chris Hughes (assistant programmers).
Interesting fact: in the Facebook database, Zuckerberg is listed as the 4th registered user.
Since the first three users were test users.
This is how the modern history of Facebook began.
The initial promotion and formation of the starting audience was carried out with the help of good old SPAM.
This is one of the most striking examples in the history of the Internet, when SPAM gave a phenomenal result.
During the first month of the social network's existence, about half of Harvard students registered in it.
As they say around a brilliant idea, there will always be hyenas eager to take a bite of the cherished piece.
So 6 days later, three Harvard University undergraduates who accused Mark Zuckerberg of stealing their idea, on the basis of which, according to them, he created Facebook.
The details of this scandal are not particularly interesting, and the information is very contradictory.
Offended high school students complained to the university management, and also convinced the editorial office of the intra university newspaper "Harvard Crimson" to publish a revealing article.
The history of lawsuits and mutual claims lasted for several years.
Facebook eventually paid $ 65 million in compensation: $ 20 million in cash and $ 45 million in Facebook shares.
In March 2004, "The Facebook" went beyond the walls of Harvard and connected students from Stanford, Columbia University and even Yale to its network.
Mark Zuckerberg targeted the universities of the so called "Ivy League", which included all elite educational institutions.
Then, most of the largest educational institutions in the United States and Canada were gradually connected to Facebook.
Any development is impossible without active investments.
At the time of its creation, "The Facebook" existed on the naked enthusiasm of fellow students and small financial investments of Eduardo Saverin to pay for server services.
The hour has come when Facebook has become so big that it demanded maximum attention.
And in order for the history of its development not to be interrupted, more significant finances were required.
Mark leaves for Silicon Valley and settles in Palo Alto.
There he meets Sean Parker, who entered the history of the Internet, thanks to the creation of the file sharing network "Napster".
As a result, at a certain stage in the history of Facebook, Parker and Zuckerberg were engaged in the development of the company together.
Sean Parker convinced Zuckerberg of the need to grow the project and attract third party funding, in which he promised solid support.
The first investor in Facebook was Peter Thiel — one of the founders of the well known PayPal payment system.
His investment amounted to $500,000.
And six months later, "The Facebook" gathered the first million users.
Since that moment in its history, the company has been actively engaged in venture investment issues.
In 2005, there were small changes.
The prefix "the" disappeared, and just "Facebook" appeared.
The social network has ceased to be positioned as a service focused exclusively on students.
Anyone could register to communicate with their friends.
A new stage has come in the history of Facebook.
The social network Facebook began to grow rapidly.
When the number of users exceeded 50 million.
Mark Zuckerberg began to receive tempting offers.
In 2008, Mark Zuckerberg became the youngest billionaire in world history — his fortune was estimated at $ 1.5 billion.
Facebook also makes money on paid groups for companies.
For groups, there is a limit on sending no more than 1200 messages daily.
If a company's group consists of millions, then it has to purchase a subscription to a paid group.
Today, there are more than 230 sponsored groups on Facebook.
They bring the company $ 23 million a month.
The history of the creation of Facebook clearly confirms one simple idea — everything is only in your hands.
As a whole project, Facebook has firmly entered the lives of many people around the world.
Of course, sooner or later the boom in social networks will stop, but this will not reduce the popularity of this project.
People have always needed communication, being showing it in the form of sounds or drawings on the walls of the cave.
Now we see a revolutionary approach to this topic on the example of virtual communication.
